Warley RFC Presidents day 2007
Presidents Day 6th May 2007 Photos now available. See Photos page.
Well if you were there and an awful lot of you were, you will have seen just what an excellent day Presidents day turned out to be. Just look at the photos on the photo page. The whole day ran like clockwork but that is usually a cunning piece of deception. A considerable amount of work goes into the planning and prep of such an occasion which starts way back with some arm twisting by Ian Morrell to raise both a vets team and some opposition, they do need some cajoling. Weigh in the President with some conniving to raise his side. A similar amount of pleasure and pain by Spencer, Steve and Mark in the youth section. Then the referees organised by Steve Tooth, with some very stylish professional shirts.
But what a result; Three youth games, One Vets game and of course the main event, the first XV against the Presidents XV. That’s just the sport. Then there is the stuff nobody wants to hear about, the blood, sweat and tears (literally) in marking pitches, building temporary bars, building Barbie’s, setting up tents, turning tents into real ale bars, buying extra pumps that you find don’t work the night before and wondering how you are going to get rid of all that strange green beer. Staffing, sleepless nights, the mantra “I love my club”. As the list is recounted just one more time, Bang it has arrived. Well the youth games, the vet’s game and the main event came and went. A fantastic effort for a club apparently having a bad season. The food and all the green beer came and went. In fact all the real ale went, plus most of the Guinness. From top to bottom, a real team effort, on and off the field. A special thanks always has to go to Nick and his bar staff that toiled long and hard. Members of the youth section who spent long hours with litter pickers. The Andersons (all four of them) who remained hidden amongst the smoke at the Barbie, (Boy that’s a lot of smoke). Every player who was moved, willingly or not, to don a pair of rugby boots. And of course every one who turned up to make this a very excellent noisy, bleary, singing and bar diving occasion. Once again, fantastic work by all concerned, can’t wait for next year. Wonder what colour the beer will be?
