BAILDON MEN'S FORUM
Baildon Men’s Forum invites all retired gentlemen, (including early retirees aged 55ish upwards) to its meetings which are held every fortnight throughout the year except during August and Bank Holidays.
Meetings are held in the Ian Clough Hall and commence at 10.a.m. on alternate Monday mornings. A varied selection of speakers provides us with a wide ranging and interesting series of talks, sometimes accompanied by slide shows and video presentations. Topics cover every conceivable subject ranging from matters of general interest to more specialised technical information from those who are expert in their own fields.
Each meeting commences with half an hour during which coffee and biscuits are served. This provides us with an opportunity to meet friends old and new. The main part of the meeting lasts for approximately an hour and is usually followed by a short period for questions.
We feel that the most important quality of the Forum is the atmosphere of goodwill and friendliness which permeates our meetings. It is not uncommon for an unsuspecting speaker to be interupted by a jocular comment or question from one of our own members. Such occasions remind us that within our membership is a wealth of experience and talent which can be shared.
There is no annual subscription, the only cost being the attendance fee, currently £1.50 which includes the cost of coffee and biscuits. All in all a very economical way of avoiding any Washday Blues!!!
Other meetings take the form of luncheons held at local venues such as the Baildon Golf Club. Details of these lunches are announced at our regular meetings and we have a social secretary who is happy to arrange other events as requested.
Throughout the year we have a great variety of speakers who take us on journeys around the world and back through time as we hear their stories and see their slide shows. Occasionally our intended speaker is unable to fulfill his appointment and it is then that our indefatigable speaker secretary, Jack Watson, really comes into his own. A recent summer outing found us at Masham where we learned something of the arcane mysteries of brewing at the Black Sheep Brewery. It is pleasing to report that after suitable refreshment the entire party returned safely to their homes in Baildon.
Details of our programme for the remainder of 2008 and for the first half of 2009 are now available. Please look at our page "What we have planned for 2008/9"
