Can You Spare a Few Hours to Make a Difference to Someones Life?
Could you offer just a few hours of your time to bring support and friendship to older people in Bingley and its surrounding villages?
Could you support older people who may have become isolated from their friends and neighbours?
People who may have experienced falls and have problems getting out and about?
Just a few hours a week or even a month could make all the difference.
We are a volunteer scheme run by "Bingley Voluntary Action" aiming to support older people by matching them with a volunteer visitor and encouraging regular visiting, activity and friendship. We want to help people to regain their lost confidence.
An older person could receive their own personal volunteer who would be carefully matched to them by our skilled coordinator. Each volunteer is interviewed and references taken up to ensure safety and security before the two are introduced.
We'll make sure they have plenty in common so that new friendships can flourish.
As friendships become established we will be offering social and recreational activities in which both friends can participate.
Being a volunteer can be very rewarding.
We would offer you a respected place in our organisation, with support and ongoing training, for example in accident prevention awareness, ways to communicate and awareness of situations which might affect older people.
You would have the opportunity to influence the project as it develops.
If you feel you can help us a volunteer befriender, or you know of an older person who might benefit from our service, please contact:-
