Feb 15, 2004:
Boston Town U10s A 3 - Old Leake U10s 2

This week Town entertained local rivals Old Leake in this return fixture. Town started very well with excellent passing play through the whole team and very nearly went ahead after their first attack on goal. However, it was Old Leake who scored first against the run of play after a long range effort which left Town's keeper Alistair Wood with no chance of saving. Town pressed on relentlessly and created numerous chances through their excellent passing play but couldn't find the back of the net. The breakthrough came when Luca Hall finally converted one of the chances to equalise and scored again shortly after to make it 2 -1 at half-time but with Town's chances the scoreline should have read 8 - 1. Town brought on Jake Beauchamp and Sam Harrison in the second half to help Town in this energy sapping game. Town's defence, comprising of Sam Towell and Jake Hunt had an uphill battle with the Old leake strikers who were forever imposing on Town's goal. Ryan Potter and Ryan Austin passed and battled brilliantly in midfield to give Boston's defence a breather. Town knowing they had to score again to put the tie safe pressed forward and with Jacob Wright's superb runs down the left and putting some excellent crosses at the end of them another goal wouldn't be far away. Old Leake also surged forward and Town found themselves four against two at the back and eventually in a good spell from Old Leake got the equalizer they deserved. In this close match it was going to take something special to win this match and it came in the 55th minute. In another well worked passing manoeuvre Finn Lewis laid the ball off superbly for Wright to hammer home the winning goal from 3 yards outside the area. At the final whistle Town came out the winners knowing that they had been in a hard match. Man of the Match: Jacob Wright

Boston Town U13s 3 - Welton Boys U13s 1
Boston Town's latest league match brought visitors Welton Boys of Lincoln to Tattershall Road. Boston were looking for maximum points to consolidate their position in the top three whilst Welton, at the wrong end of the league table, needed points to ensure their survival. Despite their respective league positions the opening exchanges of the match were very even with both sides playing good football and creating several half chances.Town took the lead midway through the half when Giles Favell cleverly chipped the ball over the advancing keeper after good build up play particularly from Tom Luto. Giles Favell doubled Boston's lead soon after following Nathan Squires' good vision. The Towns defence of Greswell, Coupland, Greenhalgh, Potter and Ogilvie were now all in good form and giving visitors Welton very limited opportunities. Boston went into half time with a 2-0 advantage.Town continued to dominate for much of the second half with midfielders Wood, Leafe, Dawson and Luto all working very hard to ensure they kept their 2-0 lead. Boston scored a third goal from Nathan Squires after the Welton keeper parried the ball into his path following James Leafe's good work on the right. To their credit Welton battled to the final whistle and they deservedly got their reward when Green scored despite a brilliant save from Joe Greswell seconds earlier. Subsitutes Elston, Bowman and Mitchell all played their part in this entertaining 3-1 victory which keeps Town in the hunt for both league and cup honours. Man of the Match: Giles Favell for two brilliant first half strikes which sent Boston on their way.
Town: Greswell Coupland Greenhalgh Potter(c) Ogilvie Wood Leafe Dawson Luto Favell Squires. Subs: Elston Bowman Mitchell.

Cherry Colts U10s 2 - Boston Town U10s A 3

Town travelled to Cherry Colts at the weekend hoping to get a double victory over the home side. In appalling conditions in the first half Town were playing up hill and against the wind and found it hard going. Cherry Colts looked the better side at the start and won a penalty and converted it to go 1 - 0 up. Town were finding it difficult to get the ball out of their own half and the relenting pressure by Colts resulted in another goal for the home side to see them go 2 - 0 ahead at half time. The second half was a totally different affair, the sun came out and so did Boston in a much more determined fashion. A few strategic changes by the management at half time saw Jacob Wright play in left mid and Ryan Potter play at right back which seemed to settle the side. Boston pulled a goal back early in the half when Wright made a surging run down the left then turned inside to pass it to Jake Beauchamp who coolly slotted it home in the bottom right corner. With an added belief Town pressed forward and were rewarded with two goals in as many minutes as Luca Hall equalised after a goal mouth scramble and a long range effort from Ryan Austin. Town emerged the fortunate victors and will be looking for a much improved performance against high flyers Louth next week. Man Of the Match: Jacob Wright.

Town: Wood, Hunt, Potter, Owen (c), Burton, Hall, Beauchamp, Wright, Austin

Boston Town U10s A 2 - Louth Old Boys U10s 3

In a much anticipated fixture Town entertained Louth Old Boys at the weekend with both teams needing a victory to keep their title chances alive. Town needed to be in top form and started brightly right from the off. Boston who were missing their regular keeper had to keep it tight at the back as they were tested early on. Stand in keeper Tomas Owen and the defensive duo of Jake Hunt and Sam Towell kept Louth at bay with excellent performances in the first 20 mins. It took a little while for Town to find their feet but with excellent passing by Ryan Potter and some superb runs down the left by Jacob Wright Town looked the stronger team. The home side took the lead after excellent passing play between the midfielders Potter, Wright and Ryan Austin who put in a pin point pass to put through Luca Hall who scored with a side footed effort. Town went into a 2-0 lead after a superb run down the left by Wright who crossed it into the penalty area and was headed home by Hall to grab his second of the game. Boston should have scored at least twice more but on both occasions missed the target. Complacency seemed to sent in as all their hard work was thrown away as they let Louth score twice before the half time whistle to make it 2-2. The second half saw Sam Harrison come on for Austin and Jake Beauchamp on for Potter but the changes didn't change this entertaining end to end game. It was Louth who broke the stale mate with a great goal from long range and with Boston with chances going begging ended up on a unfamiliar losing side. A great game with some excellent football from both teams but Town need to find some consistency to have any chance of keeping their title hopes alive. Man of the Match: Jake Hunt for yet another impressive defensive display.

Town: Owen, Hunt, Towell (c), Potter, Harrison, Hall, Beauchamp, Wright, Austin, Lewis, Burton.

Nettleham U13s 3 Boston Town Juniors U13s 2

Boston Town were looking to consolidate their place in the top three of the 'A' league when they travelled to Nettleham of Lincoln. They knew that only an excellent performance would ensure both points against a very seasoned 'A' league team.Town started confidently and within five minutes they were 1-0 ahead when James Leafe drove the ball home after good work on the right from Josh Wood.Boston could not maintain their momentum and were forced to play second fiddle for long periods of the first half. Nettleham created several good opportunities to score but could not find a way passed the impressive goalkeeping of Joe Gresswell. However, the home side, before half time, deservedly equalised to set up an eagerly awaited second half.Nettleham continued to look the better side in the second half but it was Town who took a 2-1 lead when Nathan Squires swept the ball home after good determined play from Tom Luto. This spurred the home side into action with nearly all of the last 15 minutes of play in the Boston half. An equaliser came with 10 minutes to play and just when a draw seemed the likely result, Nettleham forced the ball home to give them a 3-2 victory.Town for all their afternoons efforts and hardwork, whilst not deserving to win this match, just about deserved the draw. They must now turn all their attentions to a very important Cup Semi-final against East Coast in Skegness next Sunday.Man of the Match - Joe Greswell who did not deserve to be on the losing side.

Town - Greswell Coupland Greenhalgh Potter (c) Ogilvie Wood Leafe Dawson Hodgson Luto Squires. Subs. Bowman Mitchell.

Boston FDC u13s 6 Boston Town u13s 0

Boston Town travelled the short journey to play their local rivals Boston FDC. With both sides in very good form of late a close and exciting match was anticipated.

The opening twenty minutes lived up to expectations with both defences on top and both midfields cancelling each other out.

However, a mix up in the Town defence changed the balance of the match and as a result, FDC took a 1-0 lead. A further goal just before half-time gave the home side a 2-0 advantage.

The second half, with conditions favouring FDC, proved to be very one sided with Town playing well below par and FDC playing some excellent controlled football. The home side added four further goals to make the final score 6-0.

Boston FDC well deserved their victory and emphasised what a good side they are but Town, whilst disappointed with their performance in this match, go into the Christmas break third in the League and in the semi-final of the Cup, a position everyone would be delighted with at the beginning of the season.

Man of the Match - Jamie Bowman.

Team - Greswell Coupland Greenhalgh Potter (c) Ogilvie Wood Leafe Dawson Luto Favell Squires. Subs (all used) Elston Hodgson Bowman

Boston Town u13s 3 Ruston Sports u13s 1

In the quarter finals of the Dave Adkin under 13 Cup, Boston Town took on Ruston Sports of Lincoln.

Played in cold and very windy conditions the first half advantage, after winning the toss, was with Ruston Sports and they dominated the opening 15 minutes play but to Town's credit the score remained 0-0. The remainder of the half was much more equal with neither side creating many goal scoring opportunities. Both defences had been in control and most of the play being fought in the middle of the park. At half -time, Town were the happier with the 0-0 scoreline after playing against the strong wind.

The second half proved to be 35 minutes of good competitive cup-tie football with both sides playing very well and in the process four excellent goals were scored. The first for Boston by the hardworking James Leafe with a brilliant 25 yard freekick which found the net via the crossbar. The second an equaliser for Ruston Sports when Mark Newman scored from close range. The third an excellent chip over the keeper from Nathan Squires of Town after good work from Josh Wood and the decisive fourth, again from Nathan Squires, a stunning right foot volley from Billy Dawson's cross.

Boston's commitment, strength and fitness had again come good in the closing stages of the match and this win gives them a place in the semi-finals of the Cup to be played in January.

Encouraging performances came from Coupland, Ogilvie, Luto, Hodgson and Potter.

Man of the match - Nathan Squires for his two excellent goals.

Team- Greswell Coupland Greenhalgh Potter (c) Ogilvie Wood Leafe Dawson Luto Favell Squires Hodgson Elston Mitchell

Boston Town A U10s 4 - Young Dons B 2

Boston Town entertained Young Dons this week hoping to get revenge for their early cup exit early on this season. Young Dons tried to man mark Towns key players, which indeed seemed to work as they took the lead after 20 mins. Boston wanted some pay back and 5 mins later scored, after an impressive Ryan Potter goal, his first of the season. Boston led this match from the back, with Ali Wood, Sam Towell and Jake Hunt leading by example by their command at the back and passing it confidently through to Town's midfielders Ryan Potter, Tomas Owen and Kieran Burton who in turn were finding Towns hitman Luca Hall. However, Town couldn't put away any of their chances in the first half and conceded a sloppy goal to make it 1 -2 at half time. Town made three changes at half time with Ryan Austin, Jake Beauchamp and Jacob Wright coming on to take command of the midfield. Town were rewarded immediately when Luca Hall scored an equalising goal after some great passing play which started in Towns penalty area. Town were spurred on by this and passed and played with added confidence which resulted in Luca Hall getting his second of the day and Ryan Austin scoring a long range effort to make the score 4 -2. Town made their last substitution of the afternoon with the improving Finn Lewis coming on for Wright in midfield who made some important challenges in the latter part of the match to keep the scoreline unchanged at the final whistle. Some great individual performances this week only outshone by the overall teams performance. Man of the Match: Ryan Austin for a much improved performance and commitment.

Town: Wood, Hunt, Towell, Potter, Owen (c), Burton, Hall, Beauchamp, Wright, Austin, Lewis

BOSTON TOWN U13s 1 - SLEAFORD TOWN A U13s 5

Top of the table Sleaford were Boston Town's opponents in this 13A league match.

Sleaford started the more positive creating several good opportunities to open the scoring but excellent goalkeeping by Joe Greswell and resolute defending by the whole of the back four Coupland, Greenhalgh, Potter and Ogilvie enabled Town to remain on level terms.

Boston, despite playing with great determination and effort were unable to create chances of their own and they were pinned back in their own half for long periods. The only goal in an entertaining first half was scored by Gareth Burton of Sleaford who finished clinically with only the keeper to beat.

The second half continued in the same pattern as the first with Sleaford, the more likely team to score. A purple patch enabled them to score four further goals all by the impressive and pacey Nathan Thompson.

Boston, to their credit, battled well to the final whistle in particular Leafe and Dawson and was finally rewarded with a well taken Nathan Squires goal.

This 5-1 victory for Sleaford confirmed they are title favourites but Town know that if they continue to play with great spirit they too will have a very good season.

Man of the Match - Joe Greswell for his outstanding goalkeeping.

Team - Greswell Coupland Greenhalgh Potter (c) Ogilvie Bowman Wood Leafe Dawson Luto Hodgson Houghton Squires Favell

Boston Town U10s 1 East Coast U10s 1

This week Boston entertained East Coast with both sides looking to extend their unbeaten records. This was always going to be a close match as both sides threatened each other's goal right from the start. It was Town who opened the scoring first with a superbly taken effort from Luca Hall after twelve minutes. Town had to do some stout defending thereafter as East Coast piled on the pressure trying to get the equalizer but failed to convert numerous chances in the first half. With both teams playing some excellent football it was inevitable that another goal was on the cards and it was to be East Coast who got a well deserved equalizer, midway through the second half. As the final whistle blew the scoreline finished 1 -1 with both teams sharing the points. This was Town's best performance to date with excellent passing play and determination from everybody in what was their hardest match this season so far. Man of the match: Luca Hall for his relentless work rate.

Town: Wood, Hunt, Towell, Potter, Austin, Beauchamp, Hall, Burton, Owen, Lewis, Harrison, Wright.

Retford A u13s 1 Boston Town u13s 3

Retford A were Boston Town's sixth league opponents of the season, the last five matches all being away from home.

In an evenly contested first half, Retford proved to be difficult opposition, where their physical presence and neat football in midfield gave Town many problems. The only goal of the half after a period of sustained pressure from Boston was scored by Nathan Squires.

The second half belonged to Retford, they created the better of the chances but Town, despite a great deal of effort, never played to their full capabilities.

Retford deservedly equalised with six minutes to go to set up a grandstand finish but with the game entering injury time and Retford looking for a winner, Boston produced three quality minutes of football and scored two goals, the first from James Leafe and the second from Josh Wood, to take home maximum points when a draw seemed a more likely and fairer result.

Man of the match - Josh Wood for a hard working performance and an excellently taken goal.

Team - Greswell, Coupland, Greenhalgh, Potter (c), Ogilvie, Bowman, Wood, Leafe, Dawson, Hodgson, Luto, Favell, Squires, Houghton.

WELTON U13s 0 BOSTON TOWN JUNIORS U13s 2

In their fourth league match of the season, unbeaten Boston Town visited Welton.

In a hard fought encounter, both sides created early chances but it was Boston, after ten minutes who opened the scoring when Thomas Luto headed home a Billy Dawson corner. Town deservedly doubled their lead with an excellent Billy Dawson penalty following good determined play by Josh Wood.

For the rest of the half Boston remained in control but were unable to add to the 2-0 scoreline.

The second half proved to be very competitive with both sides having good opportunities. However, the score was still 2-0 when the final whistle blew.

This keeps Towns excellent unbeaten run in tact but for next weeks match at Ruston Sports, Boston will need to raise their game.

Man of the match: Max Coupland for his battling defensive work

Team: Greswell, Coupland, Greenhalgh, Potter (c), Bowman, Wood, Ogilvie, Dawson, Luto, Favell, Squires; subs: Mitchell, Elston.

Sleaford Town U10's 0 - 2 Boston Town U10's A

Town travelled to Sleaford this week hoping to continue their unbeaten run this season. Town won the toss and elected to kick off, Ryan Austin stepped up to take the kick hitting the cross bar with a fine strike. This was followed by some good passing play which resulted in Luca Hall getting on the score sheet within 2 minutes when he passed the ball into Sleaford's goal. Sleaford reeling from conceding an early goal went on the offensive and much of the first half of the match was spent in Town's half but Sleaford never threatened Boston's goal. Sleaford chasing the game, continued piling on the pressure in the second half but thanks to another couple of superb performances from defensive duo Jake Hunt and Sam Towell, Sleaford failed to make all their possession count. Town looked the more dangerous on the break with the better chances going to the visiting side, but both teams in the end were unable to convert any of their chances and the final score was 0 -1 to Boston. A great hard fought for victory which was well deserved in the end. Man of the Match was Sam Towell.

Town: Wood, Hunt, Towell, Austin, Potter, Beauchamp, Hall, Owen, Burton.

Boston Town U10's A 6 - Cherry Colts U10's 1

After a two week break, Town played their first home match of the season against Cherry Colts from Lincoln. A well supported match saw Boston score within the very first minute as Luca Hall, Tomas Owen and Ryan Austin passed superbly and eventually put through Jake Beauchamp who scored from 5 yards. Town's confidence was boosted when Ryan Austin scored the first of his hat-trick a further 3 minutes later. Town's performance was on a different level this week with improving performances from keeper Alistair Wood and the defensive duo of Sam Towell and Jake Hunt who in the first half prevented Colts getting on the score sheet. A further two quality goals from Austin to complete his hat-trick and a superb strike from Owen saw Town end the first half with a well deserved 5 goal advantage. The second have Town made four changes, Finn Lewis, Ryan Potter, Kieran Burton and Sam Harrison came on to continue the charge. Excellent battling performances particularly from Potter and Owen in this half resulted in another goal coming this time from Kieran Burton with a first time hit shot flying into the top left corner. Town, however could not top the day with a clean sheet as Cherry Colts scored a goal mouth scrambled consolation goal. Encouraging performances from all the players who all showed a high level of professionalism and determination from the very moment they arrived. Man of the Match: Jake Beauchamp.

Town: Wood, Towell, Hunt, Owen (c), Beauchamp, Austin, Hall, Potter, Burton, Harrison, Lewis.3

GREENBANK U13'S 1 BOSTON TOWN JUNIORS U13'S 4

In their first league match for a month, Boston Town travelled to play Greenbank of Lincoln, hoping to keep their unbeaten start to the season intact.

Boston started the brighter of the two teams but with twenty minutes played, the scoreline remained 0-0, with the defensive unit of Coupland, Greenhalgh, Potter and Bowman all playing well to protect stand in keeper Ogilvie. Town deservedly took the lead, when Leafe found James Hodgson at the far post, who rifled the ball home.

This prompted Greenbank into action and they equalised just before the break with a penalty which on the balance of play, slightly flattered the Lincoln team.

At the start of the second half, Greenbank had the ball in the net, which fortunately for Boston, was given offside. However, this seemed to spur Town into action and they took the lead when Nathan Squires scored after excellent work from the hard-working James Leafe.

Two further goals for Town followed, the first a left foot drive from Thomas Luto and the second, a well taken effort again from Nathan Squires giving Boston an excellent 4-1 victory, with credit going to the whole squad for their afternoons performance.

Man Of the Match- James Greenhalgh for his good defensive work.

Town: Ogilvie Coupland Greenhalgh Potter(c) Bowman Hodgson Leafe Dawson Luto Favell Squires Mitchell Elston

Birchwood u13s 1 - Boston Town u13s 6

In the first round of the League Cup, Boston Town travelled to Birchwood of Lincoln.

With just eleven fit players Boston struggled to make any early impact on the game and could have found themselves 1-0 down but for an excellent save from stand-in goalkeeper James Hodgson. As the first half progressed Town grew in confidence and when Billy Dawson was brought down in the area, Tom Luto duly stepped up to convert the penalty. A further goal by Nathan Squires gave Boston a well deserved 2-0 lead at half time.

Town now in control added two further goals the first from the hardworking Billy Dawson and the second a well-deserved effort from Giles Favell. Birchwood reduced the arrears to 4-1 before two further goals from Nathan Squires gave him his hat-trick. The final score of 6-1 puts Boston in the second round draw.

Man of the Match: Sean Potter for his outstanding defensive performance.

Town: Hodgson Luto Coupland Greenhalgh Potter(c) Ogilvie Leafe Dawson Mitchell Favell Squires

Boston Town U9’s 3 Heighntgton U9’s 4

Heighntgtons first attack of the game in the opening seconds caught Boston Town’s young defenders by complete surprise and resulted in the first goal for Ollie Spencer of Heighntgton.
Boston Town struggled to find their feet in the first 20 minutes and could have conceded again but for the fine defensive duties of Joshua Battram and Elliot Pogson.
Town conceded a second goal on the stroke of half time when a well struck free kick was cruelly deflected past home keeper Samuel Vince.
The second half saw Boston Juniors produce at times some quality football, stretching the visitors defence to their limits. Damian Gibbons created some good opportunities and a clever piece of play between him and Reccee Young saw Gibbons hit the upright.
Boston were rewarded for their efforts when Gibbons was fouled in the area and a penalty was awarded. Gibbons duly stepped up and converted the spot kick.
Unfortunately with Boston still celebrating the goal, Heighntgton went straight up the other end and Sam Phillips restored the two goal advantage.
With fifteen minutes to play Heighntgton sealed the points with a another deflected goal, this time from a corner which hit Heighntgton Dean Harding.
However Town, pulled their sleeves up and playing for pride took the game to Heighntgton with fine attacking play from man of the match Damien Gibbons.
Ashley Jackson pulled one back for town with a clinical strike from the edge of the box and with five minutes to go Gibbons scored his second to make the last few minutes really interesting. Unfortunately time wasn’t on Town’s side to see them produce what would have been a deserved share of the spoils.

Town: Vince, Battram, Burnham, Pogson, Young, A. Jackson, Ashton, Stocks, K.Jackson, Gibbons.

Discoveries Nov U10’s 3 Boston Town U10s A 2

This week Town were on their third consecutive away game this time in the Bryan Smith Cup against Discoveries. Town were under the cosh straight from the kick as Discoveries passesd through Town with ease and should have gone ahead. However, against the run of play it was Town who were the first to draw blood with a goal mouth scrambled effort by Luca Hall giving Town an 0-1 lead. Discoveries were not to be defeated and scored within one minute of the restart as Town were still coming to terms with the goal they had scored. The second half again was similar to the first as Boston were forced to defend and Town’s keeper, Alistair Wood having more than enough work to do. Again, against the run of play Town scored with a superb header from Tomas Owen after a good corner taken by Ryan Austin. Town were then caught napping as they bathed in their glory and let Discoveries equalize again within a minute of the restart. Town with all the wind knocked out of them went on to conceded another late goal which saw Discoveries proceed to the next round. Although there were some encouraging individual performances (Ryan Potter and Sam Towell), Town did not play as a team and must learn to compete for every ball and not give up on what may seem like a lost cause.
Man of the Match: Alistair Wood.

Town: Wood, Towell, Hunt, Burton, Potter, Beauchamp, Austin, Owen, Lewis, Hall.

LEAGUE CUP U10’S

Young Dons U10’s B 4 (4) Boston Town Juniors U10’s A 4 (2)
(4 - 2 After penalties)

A bright September Sunday morning saw Young Dons entertain Town in the League cup. After a convincing win in the league against St.Helen’s last week, much was expected of Town and sure enough went ahead midway through the first half from a Ryan Austin strike set up by Luca Hall. However, Young Dons were no pushover and fought for every ball and equalized just before halftime after some stout defending from Sam Towell and Sam Harrison. Town made three changes at the restart with Jake Hunt, Tomas Owen and Jake Beauchamp providing fresh legs in this competitive match. Town were rewarded with their pressure on the Dons goal with two further strikes coming from Austin and Beauchamp to give Town a 1 - 3 lead. With only 6 mins to go before the final whistle, Town succumbed to the home teams local support and their persistence which saw Dons score twice to make it all square. In extra time, Town had all the play with Ryan Potter’s headed effort being saved by the in-form Dons keeper and Kieran Burton’s shot hitting the post but at the end of extra time it was Dons who scored which they thought was the winner. But with only seconds to play Town scored from the centre kick which was superbly struck by Austin into the top left corner. The final score after extra time was 4 -4 and was left to penalty kicks. Boston’\'s keeper Alistair Wood saved the first of Dons’ kicks but however all their heroics were invain as Dons converted the rest of their penalties were as Boston could not. A great match with great support from both sides played in a manner that was enjoyed by all. Well Done!. Man of the Match: Alistair Wood.

Town: Wood, Harrison, Towell, Burton, Potter, Austin, Hall, Beauchamp, Owen (c), Hunt.

SWIFTS U13s 0 BOSTON TOWN U13s 5

Boston Town’s first away fixture of the new campaign, was against Swifts of Skegness, who like Town, were promoted from the B division last season.

Played in a strong cross wind, both teams found the conditions difficult to play good flowing football and relied on hard work and determination. Town, however, produced an excellent ten minute spell in the first half, when they were rewarded with 3 goals. The first was an excellent long range effort from Josh Wood, the second by Billy Dawson as a result of his persistance and the third, a left foot drive from James Hodgson.

The second half, as the first, belonged to Boston, who created most of the good chances and they incresed their lead to 5-0 with two well taken Nathan Squires goals.

The final 5-0 scoreline was just reward for Town’s effort and ensured that they continued their excellent start to the season, but know that they will face much stronger opposition in the coming weeks.
