Water Colours for beginners.
 | This course is for those who have never painted before and which serves as a consolidation course for those who took part in the lessons in the previous season and can still be termed as "beginners". Class members are expected to practise at home and their work is commented upon at the next class.
Initially a choice of paper and brushes is dicussed, followed by brush manipulation. Mixing colours, using the three primary colours to make secondary and tertiary colours follows. These three colours are used for several weeks whilst the techniques of simple washes, graduated washes and "wet to wet" are practised. Simple pictures are undertaken, their difficulty commensurate with the ability of the student. Perspective is introduced into the programme by the use of colour and linear convergence. The programme is designed to create an enjoyment of painting, keeping to simple theme, so that, although masterpieces will not be created, interest and enthusiasm will be generated to enable members to take the hobby further. |

Water Colours - Advanced
Class members will be expected to be able to handle water colours with competence and have the experience of having completed several paintings and of working on their own. They might not be familiar with advanced techniques but these will be explained, as and when they are required.
In this class individuality is encouraged and other water colour materials such as water colour pencils, water colour crayons, gouache, acrylics etc. can be used seperately, or as part of mixed media work.
The picture below is from a recent exhibition of artists work. There will be an Art and Craft Exhibition and Coffee Morning on Friday 19 April 2008 at Cleckheaton Town Hall starting at 10.00 am. | |

Watercolours - General Information
This year we will be running 3 watercolour classes, catering for all levels of students from complete beginners, through improvers, to advanced level.
John Taylor will be the tutor for the beginners class and also for alternate lessons of the improvers class.
Stephen Barlow will be the tutor for the advanced class and also for alternate lessons of the improvers class.
As well as the 3 seperate classes of 10 lessons, each tutor will hold a 1 day workshop where the class will all work together to create the same picture during a single day, from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm. John will be doing "A Farmhouse in the Dales" and Stephen will be doing "A French Vinyard". In both cases students will be taken through the day step by step in order to have a completed picture at the end. This is a simple way to get a good painting done, even if you only have basic skills.
To see examples of Stephen's work visit: www.britishartwork.co.uk, after 1 September 2007.

Water Colours for Improvers
A course designed for those who have completed the beginners class or alrady have knowledge of the basic techniques and methods of water colour painting.
Class members will be encouraged to create their own pictures, either by copying illustrations from books, photgraphs etc., or by drawing originals; then painting them with individual guidance from the tutors as required.
Demonstrations to the class as a whole will be given, but the emphasis will be on students working as individuals rather than in a group.
