Family History

Family history is fast becoming the most popular pastime in the country and interest has been stimulated by such TV programmes as 'Who Do You Think You Are?' However, have you ever stopped to wonder just how the invited celebrity is presented with instant facts concerning their heritage? Certainly, like the vast majority of the country, you will have failed to realise just how much time and effort goes into the production of each piece of evidence which constitutes the jigsaw of the family tree
If you would like an insight into the process whereby the research is conducted or more particularly you are considering making a start yourself, then this is the course for you. The course plans to look at: - the oral tradition, civil registration, census returns, Parish records, wills and admons, military records, emigration records, electoral rolls, trade directories and other sources which will enable you to trace your descent and give an insight into the lives of your forebears.
There will be support given to enable course members to search records on line as well as the more traditional approaches to the research task. The course will be individualised to incorporated your own research requirements and the ultimate aim will be to enable you to at least make a start on your particular family tree.
