Between the Clarendon Academy closing & the arrival of the Knights of St Columba the building was known as the Bowland Street Mission. Its most famous evangelical preacher was Smith Wigglesworth. Known as the Preaching Plumber he is still admired today. We had christians from all corners of the globe arriving at our doors to see the place where he preached. The mission's baptismal bath is thought to be buried under the club stage.
