I agree with yorksshirepud - it is a bit confusing where best to post. Warren - if you haven't already picked it up, have look on the Messageboard for my reply about your dad, Billy Ellison. I was born in 1951 and grew up in the village. If I can help anyone (Sylvian Timberley?) with information about Wibsey in the Sixties, don't hesitate to ask. I went to the Infants and Junior Schools, then on to Grange Boys' Grammar School in 1963. Our family was heavily involved at Wibsey Congregational Chapel, particularly the youth club and dramatic society. I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who remembers me/us. I moved south (to Huddersfield)in the early Eighties, but I still get back to Bradford regularly to watch that shower at Valley Parade.

We are the current landladies for the White Swan in wibsey, we have been the managers and now are the lease holders. When we took over nearly 2 years ago the pub was in a sorry state through bad management and had many problems but we would like to say that we have sorted all the problems out and it is fast becoming one of the best pubs in Wibsey with a large refurb on the cards once the planning application as gone through, hopefully before christmas if not then definately in the new year. If you haven't visited the pub in a while why not take the opportunity to do so we're sure you'll love the friendly atmosphere. We will be closing for the refurb however we will keep you posted as to when that will start.

Love reading about Wibsey as we left to live in Scotland 2 years ago. Sorry to read that the Swan has gone downhill as it was our second home and will always hold special memories. Is Pam still the lollipop lady for Wibsey Primary?!

I just read a comment from my brother who now lives in San Francisco on his yacht The Salty Dog. My husband and I visited him last August. Reading this site also awakened many memories of Wibsey. We lived on Tennyson Road before moving to Warburton Place, then left to live in Canada in April 1954 - I was twelve and my experience as an 'immgrant' was far from pleasant. Memories of Tennyson Road? The fair ground and the excitement when the fair came. Playing on the flat roof on top of Hilda Kersley's outside toilet in the front yard, walking over to Briarwood to visit Auntie Ruth on Guy Fawkes day - still can taste the homemade toffee and remember clearly collecting pieces of wood or any other combustible, making a 'guy', being terrified of the crackers but enjoying the turn out of all the neighbours to share the bonfire. Walking to St. Paul's school and trying to avoid a small cottage where it was reputed a witch lived. Stone walls, stone buildings, stone floors - all imprinted on my mind so I am still making stone walls aged 65 on my property - a farm on the East Coast of Tasmania. Loved the nostalgia.
