Netherwood Ladies Hockey Club???????????

Many people ask where Netherwood is and we have to admit we are named not after a place or area, but from commercial buildings in Manor Row, Bradford, where girls from Boyce Welch & Co, a firm of Chartered Accountants, formed the club in 1965.

Over the years our home ground has been in Wibsey Park, Horsfall Playing Fields, Girlington Meths Cricket Ground, the new Astroturf pitch at Scholemoor and quite recently Thornton Grammar School, where we hope to be for many years to come. We have no clubhouse, but have been made most welcome by the landlord and landlady of The Quarry Arms at Clayton. Refreshments are made available after each home match, and we have been known to imbibe of the odd refreshing beverage.

Members of the Yorkshire Ladies Hockey League our start to the season in Division 1V has been disappointing and we know that we are better than our current form would show.

We are always on the look-out for new players and age is no barrier to girls looking for a real competitive challenge, or maybe just a run-out on a Saturday morning or afternoon. Don't tell anyone but one of our regular players is over the big five-o and, whilst not one of the founding members, joined in 1965. It just shows you are never too old.

Teenagers are also encouraged to join us and all will find a warm welcome. And don't think that by playing with Netherwood entry into a higher standard of hockey is barred to you. A number of players have started their playing days with us and gone on to play with Bradford and other better placed clubs. I know she won't mind us bragging a little by reminding people that Jill Atkins, former England and Great Britain captain, and Olympic medal winner, started her days at Netherwood with her mother and two sisters.

THIS SITE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING SET-UP. PLEASE BE PATIENT AND AWAIT FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS.
