Why Demolish our Odeon?
Why do we have to loose such a good building in Bradford? It could easily be converted into a good sized concert venue. I understand that the 1960's conversion into two cinemas and a bingo hall damaged the original interior. But if the conversion was removed then the space left could be brought back into use as a first class venue. and a useful asset to Bradford. We don't need shops and hotels on this site (plenty of these empty in the city!) Open a concert hall in the original auditorium, it held over 3,300 people! Restore the old ballrom into a muti-purpose space for small to medium events, open the restaurant to allow patrons to dine before a show. Open the cafe for passing people to drop in and have a cuppa! It all sound easy doesn't it! It just needs someone with vision to do it, BCR and the Council don't have it thats for sure! If a concert hall opened here then it would bring in visitors to the city, restaurants would open to supply visitors. other knock on advantages would be an increase in hotel bookings as people came to vist the venue and then went on to explore the surrounding countryside. The old Odeon is idealy situated next to the Alhambra Theatre to allow a true 'West End' feeling in the city. Plastic mushrooms and a lake are not what's needed here!
