Post Office FC

Though they had been very successful in Half Holiday League football, not since earlier days had the Post Office competed in regular local league weekend matches.
When Geoff Wilson entered a team in the Alliance for the 1998-1999 season he wisely employed former Thackley favourite Phil Holmes – a player with 25 years of experience of local soccer – as his adviser. In the debut season the team came runners up to a young Wyke side in division 4A.
The club went one better the following year when, in a two-horse race in division 3A, the club who were 12 points clear of third place won the title, doing so with 19 wins from 22 and six points more than runners-up Shoulder of Mutton.
Interest had been such that a second team arrived for 1999-2000, but while the first team took the division 3A title, the reserves finished bottom of division 4A.
While their rivals from 1999-2000 Shoulder of Mutton recorded another promotion, Post Office levelled finished mid-table in their division 2B debut.
The reserve team folded but has been revived again this season, while after a season of consolidation in division 2B, the Mailmen hope to improve further.
