St John Ambulance trying to recruit new members
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Visit the theatre perhaps or maybe go to the football or rugby? How about a concert or music festival?
We do all these and more and we don’t even need a ticket to get in! How?
By being a member of St John Ambulance, that’s how!
St John Ambulance is there at all major (and many minor) community events, providing first aid to anyone who may require it. We attend events large and small – from the local village gala to pop concerts and professional sporting fixtures.
But being part of a national organisation means that we can also lend our support to even bigger events, such as the Commonwealth Games, Leeds Festival or even the London Marathon. In fact wherever first aid may be needed, you’ll find us there.
St John members are trained in modern first aid techniques, which are regularly updated. This prepares them to do anything at a moments notice, be it to tend to a child who has fallen and grazed a knee or to provide immediate care and treatment for someone having a heart attack. St John members are trained to treat a wide range of problems and to take care of people until further help arrives.
Some members are trained to use medical gases equipment and defibrillators, thus helping to deliver more advanced life support immediately when it’s needed.
Some members also undertake further training so that they can drive and provide care to others using our fleet of up-to-date ambulances. St John is the back up to the local NHS ambulance service and helps to provide extra resources in the event of a major incident such as a train crash r sudden flooding.
