I have 2 Smith families, given below as: Family (1) and Family (2)
The families were not related through the Smith name, but through the marriages of sisters Margaret and Mary Ann Fayle.

      Family (1)
WILLIAM HENRY SMITH was, born Stockport, Cheshire, parents unknown about 1850.
He married MARGARET FAYLE 23 January 1876 in St. Michaels, Toxteth Park, Lancs. daughter of DANIEL FAYLE and ELIZABETH OATES.

In the 1881 census William Henry Smith was listed as Head Booksellers Assistant aged 31 and was living at 9 Alfred St Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire with his wife Margaret and daughter Edith aged 3 years and son Harry H aged 10 months.

I have been unable to find William Henry Smith in the 1891 census.
His children were in the 1891 census, as follows:
FREDERICK SMITH, b. 1883, and HARRY SMITH, b. 1880, both born Hulme, Manchester,
and were living with their grandmother Betsey Stephenson in Liverpool.

A search of the 1901 census:
I found the family at 24 Hardy Street, Liverpool, Parish of St Michael:
Margaret Smith aged 42 years, widow, midwife.
and son Frederick aged 18 years--printer compositor, born Manchester.
Betsey Stephenson 81 years, widow, and 1 servant.

I think the little girl Edith must have died after 1881. So far I have not found the son Harry on the 1901 census

      Family (2)
GEORGE SMITH was born 1829 and died 27 November 1908 in Liverpool.
He married MARY Ann Fayle 1858 in Liverpool.

In 1961 he was living at 54 Chester St. Toxteth Park, Liverpool with his wife and her parents, Daniel & Betsey Fayle

By the 1871 census, he was living at 92 South Chester St, Toxteth Park with Mary Anne and children:
Elizabeth 11 years, Jane 9 years, George 3 years,
and boarder George Whittaker, Police constable, 36 years.

1881 census - The family were at 110 Northumberland St Toxteth Park, Lancashire,
George SMITH aged 52 years --Head, Bricklayer.
wife Mary Ann aged 39 years
with children --Harriet aged 9 years, Thomas .J. aged 8 years, Margaret J. aged 4 years, James B. aged 2 years and Daniel aged 8 months all born Liverpool

By 1891 The family is now once again living in South Chester Street, at No 80.
George (still bricklaying), with his wife Mary Ann
Children--Thomas was now aged 18--- Apprentice to Bricklayer
Margaret now aged 14 years--- scholar.
      James 12 years scholar
      Daniel 11 years scholar

In the 1901 census, the family were still living at 80 South Chester St, Toxteth Park
      George aged 70 bricklayer,
his wife Mary Anne 59 years
son James 22 years apprentice bricklayer, and 2 boarders

George left a will at his death, leaving all to his wife Mary Anne Smith. The will was probated on the 7th December 1908.

I would love to hear from any one researching this family.

61-JAD Liverpool with Irish Roots

ID Town/s of Interest   Summary of Interests/Message
61-JAD Toxteth Park   Researcher: Jade Werner
  -Liverpool   jadewerner@bigpond.com
  & ?Manchester
      Submitted: March 2006

      Hi All,
I am trying to research any information pertaining to my great grandfather ROBERT GEORGE SMITH, born in Bessbrook in Ireland (I think) on the 24th March 1898.
His parents were Robert George Smith and Nelly Smith (Maiden name possibly spelt Smyth, Smithe, etc).
Robert was one of a large number of children from this union.

He later moved to Liverpool and married Rebecca Isaacs on the 18th August 1919 at Toxteth Park.
      This union created 12 children.
Robert passed away in June 1973 in Manchester or Liverpool.

If anyone has any information on Great grandad Robert... it would be gratefully appreciated. Also if anyone could tell me how to trace information in Ireland on this line..... that would be wonderful. Yours in family history, Jade

63-GIL: Huddersfield Connections

ID Town/s of Interest   Summary of Interests/Message
63-GIL Cleckheaton,   Researcher: Gill Buttery
  Huddersfield,   email: g_buttery @ hotmail.com
  Barrow-in-Furness   Location: East Yorkshire
      Interests submitted: March 2006

John Smith, a joiner, was born 1822 in Misson, Notts. Son of William Parkinson Smith, a farmer (b.1788 Garthorpe, Lincs) and Ann Carlile (b. 1789 Coleby, Lincs)

His wife, Cecily Winn was born 1823 in the village of Well, near Snape, Yorks. Her parents were Thomas (also a farmer) and Mary Winn.

Children of John SMITH and Cecily nee WINN,
      All born in Huddersfield -
      Thomas 1848, **John H. 1850, Frank 1859,
      Edward P. 1862, and Mary E. 1864

**John H Smith (b.1850, Cleckheaton) was a saddler. He married Hannah (maiden name unknown).

John H. and his family moved from Cleckheaton to Hull, E Yorks, sometime between 1881 and 1888. He was mentioned in the Kelly's directory of 1913 for Hull. But the website FreeBMD gives his death as 1902. He died in Barrow-in-Furness

Given the name and the fact he lived in Hull, I would have totally dismissed the information that John Smith who died in Barrow-in-Furness as having any link to my family. As it was, my father had already given me the information that his grandfather had moved and consequently died in Barrow-in-Furness, some years earlier. My father was not sure why he went to live in Barrow.

I have been unable to find any information regarding his wife, Hannah, apart from census information that gives her birthplace as Sheffield. Maybe, she had relatives in Barrow. None of their children had moved there.

John H and Hannah had 3 sons.
William (1879) and Frederick (1884) were born in Cleckheaton, but Arthur (1888) was born in Hull.
Frederick and Arthur married sisters Louisa and Olive Tute
