In the 1881 census William Henry Smith was listed as Head Booksellers Assistant aged 31 and was living at 9 Alfred St Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire with his wife Margaret and
daughter Edith aged 3 years and son Harry H aged 10 months. |

I have been unable to find William Henry Smith in the 1891 census. |

I am trying to research any information pertaining to my great grandfather ROBERT GEORGE SMITH, born in Bessbrook in Ireland (I think) on the 24th March 1898. |

|
|
His parents were Robert George Smith and Nelly Smith (Maiden name possibly spelt Smyth, Smithe, etc). |
| |
|
|
Robert was one of a large number of children from this union. |
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
|
He later moved to Liverpool and married Rebecca Isaacs on the 18th August 1919 at Toxteth Park. |
| |
|
|
This union created 12 children. |
| |
|
|
Robert passed away in June 1973 in Manchester or Liverpool. |

|
|
|
| |
|
|

John H. and his family moved from Cleckheaton to Hull, E Yorks, sometime between 1881 and 1888. He was mentioned in the Kelly's directory of 1913 for Hull. But the website FreeBMD gives his death as 1902. He died in Barrow-in-Furness |

Given the name and the fact he lived in Hull, I would have totally dismissed the information that John Smith who died in Barrow-in-Furness as having any link to my family. As it was, my father had already given me the information that his grandfather had moved and consequently died in Barrow-in-Furness, some years earlier. My father was not sure why he went to live in Barrow.

I have been unable to find any information regarding his wife, Hannah, apart from census information that gives her birthplace as Sheffield. Maybe, she had relatives in Barrow. None of their children had moved there.
