Welcome from Pat Shore, Yorkshire President 2007 to 2008

Soroptimist International is a worldwide organisation for women in management, business and the professions with over 3,000 clubs in 120 countries split into 4 Federations. Soroptimist International of Yorkshire is a member of Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) one of the four Federations.

There are 26 clubs in Yorkshire with 765 members. The ladies come from a wide range of cultures, talents, experiences and knowledge. The diversity of the membership is what makes Soroptimism cohesive and strong.

As the Yorkshire Regional President my theme this year is;
“Soroptimism around the world, Action now empowerment tomorrow,”
We work through service projects (Programme Action) to advance human rights and the status of women and our International aspect is what makes us different from a lot of other women’s organisations.

This year in the Yorkshire Region we will be looking at how we can support women and children in Sierra Leone, a country broken by war. Project Sierra is a 4 year partnership between Soroptimist International and Hope and Homes for Children. The joint aim is to raise £1 million to transform the lives of some of the most deprived people in the world.
In addition we will continue to support our Friendship Link SI Zimbabwe to help them in their work, providing education and support to women and children in their country which is experiencing very difficult times of political unrest and financial instability.

We always welcome like minded women in to our clubs. I am proud to serve and lead Soroptimist International of Yorkshire and I am sure you would get as much satisfaction and enjoyment from being a member as I do. If you are interested in becoming a member of Soroptimist International please contact me through this web site or the Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) website. Members unable to attend club meetings for what ever reason can access our monthly virtual club meeting which enables members to communicate with each other on line

Soroptimists are hard working women from the a-z of occupations - artists, business owners, charity and volunteer workers, doctors, engineers, farmers………..through to zoologists. We represent all ages, cultures and ethnic groups.

Join us for fun, friendship and action – and help us to make a difference to the lives of women & children. Apply on the web site today. It could change your life.
