Altrincham Life Saving & Water Safety Club
Altrincham Life Saving & Water Safety Club is the only RLSS affiliated club in all Trafford. The main purpose of the club is to equip young and old with the vital skills to know how to react to an emergency in and around water.
Our members are known as Lifesavers.
There are Lifesavers in every walk of life.
Lifesavers can bridge the gap between an incident being discovered and the emergency services arriving. In effect they can make a crucial difference.
Emergencies don’t just happen to other people – it could be your family or your friends who may need your life saving skills – to save their lives!
Altrincham Life Saving & Water Safety Club has training programmes which equip people with the necessary skills and techniques to act in an emergency and to save someone’s life.
The Club runs a Junior Section (8 – 14 years) and a Senior Section (14 years and over).
Applicants for the Junior Section are expected to be able to swim to Silver or Gold standard. Within the Junior Section we run a ’Safe Swimmer’ Group for 8 – 10 year olds that concentrates on stroke development, water awareness and basic life saving techniques. The Junior Section work to achieving the RLSS Life Support Awards 1,2 and 3 plus Rescue Breathing and the Millennium Medallion.
The Junior Section meets on a Saturday at Altrincham Leisure Centre between 5.15 and 6.15pm
Applicants for the Senior Section should be able to swim at least 100 metres. The Senior’s training programmes are aimed at achieving the RLSS qualifications for Pool and Open Water Awards. These awards lead to the Pool Lifeguard and Beach Lifeguard Awards. They are also approved programmes towards the Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Gold Awards and GCSE PE
The Senior Section meets on Thursday evenings at Altrincham Leisure Centre between 7.30 and 9.30pm and if demand is sufficient an alternative session will be run on Saturday 4.15 and 6.15pm.
