HOW IT ALL BEGAN

way back in 1954 a friend & I were walking along the banks of the river mersey in cheshire, when we saw a man on a bicycle through a bag into the river. As it floated towards us I noticed it was moving.I dashed to the edge and with the aid of a long stick managed to drag the bag close enough to grab it. Taking it to the top of the bank I very carefully opened it. Inside were 3 tiny kittens, cold wet & dithering. We dried them off as best we could & dashed off home with them. they could not have been more than a few weeks old. All girls. We cared for them untill they were fit & strong, then advertised in the local shop. Wanted good homes for 3 lovely kittens. By week-end all 3 had been found homes. However we got ten times the number of callers offering us more kittens, cats and even puppies.
As we had quite a large garden, it did not seem such a bad idea to do what we could. however it soon grew out of all proportions, and soon had to ask for other volunteers. The rest is history.
