JASPER CARROTT ON COMEDY
Jasper Carrott is used to playing the country’s major concert venues but a highlight of the Arts Society programme was the private one-man performance he gave at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys.
The top comedian travelled from his Warwickshire home when the Society invited him to talk about comedy and what makes people laugh.
For two hours he explained comedy techniques and answered questions from an audience of Arts Society members students, parents and staff.
"And the fact that he asked no fee or even travelling expenses meant we could turn the evening into a charity fundraiser for the locally-based The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust," says Arts Society chairman, Heather Bradshaw.
"The evening was an exclusive event which Jasper put together especially for us after being asked by one of our committee members who has known him for a number of years. We did not promote it outside the school because he was keen for people to understand that it was unrehearsed and informal ... not a usual stand-up performance."
Jasper, who was made an honorary prefect of the school, explained: "I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did. For me, it was a learning experience and an opportunity to talk to people who are genuinely interested in the art of comedy."
