Cooper S Splits Up....

Shock, Horror - Latest News (October 2004) Well......although the regular gigging is over, Cooper S is set to play a gig at The Iron Door Club - think its November 20th!!!!
It will feature the full line up - Mark, Ged, Pete, Paul and Brian - and will comprise all those songs you thought (hoped!!!) you'd never hear again. get your backsides into gear and check out the Iron Door for what promises to be a great night!!!
Thanks - Cooper S

Sorry folks, but the party really is over…
Yep, we’ve .got to tell you that Cooper S has announced they are to split up (November 2003). It is an amicable split, we still get on like a house on fire, but after years of playing hundreds of gigs and miles and miles of travel, and though we still loved the live experience, overall, we just gotta say the fun has gone.
So as from mid October, Cooper S has cancelled all of their remaining gigs for the rest of the year except one last performance at Bobby’s Bar on Wednesday 27th October (9-30pm).
We are sorry if you are disappointed, but we do recognise and appreciate the amazing support you have given us over the years. Without it we couldn’t have carried on for so long and had so many good times and great gigs to look back on.
We’d like to thank - all the landlords and venues we played (particularly Graham at The Halfway House, Jimmy at The Mersey Clipper and Steve/Robbie at the Iron Door), all the unseen people in the background who helped to make Cooper S such a successful band, and most of all each and everyone of you which came to the gigs regularly over the years through thick and thin – THANKS!
Well, that’s about all for now folks, we wish all the bands on the circuit keeping music live all the very best for the future - keep on rockin’. We are sure that at some stage in the future you’ll see us around at gigs and maybe in different bands – who knows? - come over and say hello. We are going to leave the web site up for a while, but we will take most of it down soon.
From all the guys in Cooper S, this time it really is over and out!!!!
Love
Mark, Gerry, Brian, Paul and Pete

About us......
Well for this year, they are the best around as Cooper S has won the Best Band of the Year Award. At a ceremony on March 8th at the Pacific Road Theatre, Birkenhead, hosted by the monthly gig guide magazine, The Buz, Cooper S was presented with the award before they performed a short set. Thanks to everyone who voted for them from Mark, Gerry, Brian, Pete and Paul. Full review is featured on the News and Reviews section.

There is no doubt, Cooper S is one of Merseyside's best live rock acts - it's loud, it's lively and....100% live. 2003 and another years worth of gigs to look forward to...keep on checking the gig guide for our updates and we'll look forward to seeing you around the area...cheers.

The five piece band are based in Wirral regularly play gigs in pubs and clubs around the peninsula, in which Cooper S plays a rich set of original songs and cover versions of many of the best rock songs around today...and some from yesterday - spliced with their own home grown material. But Cooper S are not just another covers band - go along and find out for yourself.

But first a little bit of history...In November 2000, Cooper S were asked to support the legendary Peter Green (ex Fleetwood Mac) and his Splinter Group at The International Guitar Festival of Great Britain (Guitar Festival reviews) at New Brighton's Floral Pavilion. Playing a set of original material, the band recieved a great reception from a packed, full house audience. A year later and 2001 saw the band return to the Guitar Festival with a smaller gig at The Iron Door Club as part of the 10 day musical extravaganza.

Cooper S always try to give the right sound for thier audience having taken a lot of time and patience in building a superb P.A. system, which is just right for either smaller gigs or concert halls. Coupled with atmospheric lighting, Cooper S produce a show really worth watching.

Check out our gig guide section on the site to find out where we are playing next.

New to the site is the MP3 downloads which have proved very popular and have been accessed quite number of times, so have a look and let us know what you think. In the meantime, enjoy the website, we try to keep it fairly up-to-date, but being lazy....well y'know! If you're going to the gigs, always check the STOP PRESS page for any breaking news or cancellations.

Cheers from Cooper S.

Gerry Lennon - guitar/vocals

The name is no coincidence, Gerry is a cousin of the late Beatle, John Lennon. Amongst the bands which he was invited to join includes The Waterboys. He formed The Pictures - which played for over a decade - writing many original songs, before relaunching it with a new line up as Cooper S. He also composed incidental music for many TV shows. He is the director of the P.A, Stage Management and Lighting company, EMS Solutions and works with a number of bands and organisations on major events and shows throughout the UK. He regularly mixes the bands sound at The Iron Door Club. Contact on tel - 07762 757566.

Mark Saunders - lead vocal/guitar

Mark was formerly seen in BND, a band which enjoyed immense popularity in Europe (particularly Germany) with several hit singles and CD’s released, before becoming the front man in one of Wirral's top bands, The Pictures. The Pictures eventualy evolved into Cooper S, which in today's line up, Mark and Gerry are the original members. A lively frontman for the band, he has an exceptional voice, and has written many of the original songs which appear regularly in the Cooper S sets.

Pete Sommervile - bass

Pete joined Cooper S from local band, The Bovines after spending time playing double bass in jazz fusion group, Rising Hills. He has a wealth of experience touring abroad, particularly in the Middle East and has also spent sometime on cruise liners. Hecan also been seen from time to time playing in the rock band, Mojo Filter. A brilliant and enthusiastic bassist, his unique style and solid playing helps to provide the vital rythym and full sound to the Cooper S set.

Brian Prendergast - keyboards

Brian has had much experience in playing live music, performing in several popular Merseyside based bands before eventually being invited to join Cooper S. He is an accomplished pianist and songwriter of many styles, and has also been actively involved as Musical Director and Advisor in several musicals and theatrical plays which have been produced in the area.

Paul Barlow - drums

Paul is certainly no stranger to chart success, having been drummer and songwriter with the very popular band of the 1980's, The Christians. With The Christians he took part in several world tours, and many appearences on Top of the Pops with many chart singles, including Greenbank Drive, What's In A Word, Hooverville, Forgotten Town, An Ideal World, and many others. He has also played with another chart band, The Mighty Wah! (Pete Wylie).
