About the band....
The Jalapenos have blazed a trail of rock'n'roll mayhem throughout the UK since 1997 (that's the last century!) and show no signs of stopping! Renowned for their astonishingly energetic and visual live shows, Charlie Davidson (guitar and vocals), Doctor Martyn (bass and vocals) and Diamond Dave (drums and vocals) have a formula which is unique amongst contemporary bands : talent + humour + excitement = fun!
The Jalapenos have released four studio albums and one compilation on independent label 3D Discs. For the last two albums, all songs have been written and produced exclusively by the band. For more info, please explore the site... a splendid time is guaranteed for all! |  |

No Sleep Till Nantwich!
Watching bands applying their trade in pubs comes in two forms. Tired and jaded musicians playing the same old songs, going through the motions and appearing as bored as the punters watching them - or - very occasionally the odd band might crash onto the scene who have that magical mix of charisma, showmanship, originality and undeniable musical ability. From my experience the latter seem in a minority (or am I getting old and cynical?) - although in 2010 there is a band applying that magical mix in the pubs, clubs and bikers meetings of the north west and that band is The Jalapenos. Curiosity caused from fading memories of one of the band members former bands drove me with intent to check them out, even if it did mean travelling half way across the country to a little boozer in Nantwich, Cheshire in March 2010. Was it worth it, was I disappointed? Two easy answers - not disappointed and worth every quid spent on car hire, accomodation and copious amounts of ale...oh yes...in a live environment...these particular Jalapenos are as red hot as the Mexican peppers they take their name from.
Some might say some of the covers they played are perhaps too old, too safe a bet, traditional...but...hang on, rock'n'roll is meant to be fun, with no pretences, so what the hell, stick with your roots and gut instincts, play what you genuinely believe in and play it like it belongs to you eh? More importantly there are not many bands out there that deliver songs such as "Milk and Alcohol", "Jailhouse Rock", "Hippy Hippy Shake", "Riot in Cell Block No 9" with such enthusiasm and humour and combined with their own original slant and power it makes them some of the most memorable renditions you are likely to hear these days. And then there's "Roadhouse Blues"...Ok, it might be a bar room standard, but the Jalapenos version is up there with the best of 'em. For those who thought the Status Quo version was the ultimate cover of the doors anthem, The Jalapenos version, thanks to the many and varied lead journeys that guitar player Charlie Davidson branches into, takes it to a similar level of variety and intensity. The ultimate bar room jam song, played by the ultimate rock'n'roll band? Maybe...
But The Jalapenos aren't just your normal covers band, they play an equal amount of their own material. And the good thing is, it's all as memorable, raucous and rowdy and fits seamlessly into the set alongside their choice of covers. Tracks such as the wonderful "Drink the Place Dry" (sounding like a British George Thorogood playing something familiar by The Clash...), Rolling Stones tinged "Love, Money and Noise", a belting "First Across the Line" (better than anything Quo have churned out in years), "Poison Letter", "Wedding Bells" (complete with crazy jig), "Alien Baby" (rock'n'roll meets 'Pigs in Space' in the 21st century?) "Keeping Music Live" (a modern day hymn for a band's life on the road) should all be future classics that need to be bellowed out in drinking establishments throughout the land. And that's without mentioning the rather more mellow "Willow World", reflective, restrained and melodic on the band's CD, even this track takes on a more powerful and memorable identity in it's live outing.
If the music isn't enough, the showmanship side should win them the day wherever The Jalapenos play. Facial contortions abound, mad percussion excursions, obscenely unfashionable shirts, and more duck walking, guitars played behind heads and under knee caps than Chuck Berry could dream of these days and the audience remain transfixed from beginning to end. For a basic three piece, The Jalapenos do indeed (quote of the night!) "incorporate 3 front men for the price of 1" ! In a just world The Jalapenos should be tearing up every venue this side of Mexico City, but until that day arrives, make the most of them and take every opportunity to witness the UK's very own extra special red hot chilli peppers!!
