Go Ape! - an unsolicited review

The Jalapenos - GO APE!
I've seen this Wirral-based band three or four times in the last year and it's always a tremendous night out, packed with high octane rock'nroll/60s beat music which occasionally veers off into psychedelic freakout zones, wrapped up in a stage presentation so energetic that you can get exhausted just sitting there watching the guys leap about! Their third album, LOQUISMO! (reviewed here some 6 months ago) was a corker, but this new release is a real step ahead, a very strong and beautifully paced set of original songs which adds pub rock and a touch of New Wave (a la Elvis Costello/Nick Lowe) to the musical equation. Add a tremendous studio sound - warm, rich, resonant and sounding live despite the obvious use of overdubbing - and an excellent design package and you have a first rate example of a "grassroots" local band CD which deserves to be heard and enjoyed by far more people than will ever get a chance to even see a copy. It's been on rotation here for two days now, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Mail order details will be added to this as soon as I get them.
Well, what more can we say?!? This review comes from the Australian Pink Floyd site, www.notaussiefloyd.com . Thank you our antipodean friends! |
