Achievement Award 2001 - Sheena Douglas
This award was presented for the first time in 1999 in memory of Richard Naylor, one of our helpers who tragically lost his life in a road accident. It was given by his wife, Suzanne Naylor, who asked that it be presented every year to a person in the Macclesfield Seals Swimming Club who has shown exceptional achievement. There are many people in the Seals Club who show exceptional achievement, but each year one person in particular is chosen to receive this award. It has been awarded in the past to Elizabeth Evans, and Gary Goodwin.
This year, the person to receive the award is not a Seal, but a helper. She has been involved with the Seals Club since she was 7 years old, sneaking under the ropes from the Fin Club to swim with the seals as an unofficial helper.
Back in early 1997, many of the original management committee of the Seals were unable to continue, and the club had to close for a few months. People really missed their Friday swim, so she “volunteered” three of her family members onto the committee, and so helped re-launch the club in Autumn 1997.
Sheena has since qualified as a lifeguard and Assistant Swimming Teacher, and has had a large input in the running of the Club over the last four years. She is now studying Music, Education and Special Needs at University, her choice of course and career influenced by her work with the Club. |
Achievement Award 2006 - Mark Swinson
There are many people in the Seals Club who show exceptional achievement, but each year one person in particular is chosen to receive this award. It has been awarded in the past to Elizabeth Evans, Gary Goodwin, Sheena Douglas, Edward Parrish, Doreen Todd, Lee Wisson and last year Jordan Hayter.
This year, the person to receive the award is an adult member, a Seal who has been involved with the Club for just over a year, since October 2005.
He has worked amazingly hard; from being very unsure of the water when he first joined, he has now gained a wonderful confidence, swimming with the multi-coloured float, splashing around, and joining in with the ever-popular ball games; and he never fails to cheer everyone up with his ever-ready smile and enthusiasm. For his perseverance and enthusiasm throughout this year, the ‘Richard Naylor Award for Exceptional Achievement’ 2006 was awarded to Mark Swinson
