Seals Celebrated 50 years on April 14th 2007
Almost 90 people celebrated The Macclesfield Seals Swimming Club’s 50th Birthday party: Mayors past and present, Sir Nicholas and Lady Winterton, Paralympic Gold Medallist Sarah Bailey MBE, Seals past and present, Leisure Centre staff, friends, and families. We were entertained by Peter Moss, who is son to Assistant Secretary Cherry Moss; also Jenny Douglas who was a lifeguard and Seals helper for many years, who is now studying Musical Theatre in London; and the group Fizzical, which includes Chairman Ron Gill’s granddaughter.
There were a number of presentations: Andrea Bennett and David Winder received certificates having both been members for over 18 years. Liz Evans, committee member, received a certificate and an award as she has been with The Seals since 1970. Chairman Ron Gill received an award and a huge cheer from everyone for all his work on behalf of the club for so many years, including 24 years as Chairman.
Everyone had a fantastic time!
The Seals Club, which was formed back in 1957 at the old Davenport Street baths, and transferred to Macclesfield Leisure centre when it opened, are a local swimming club for children and adults with disabilities, who meet every Friday at the Macclesfield Leisure Centre to improve swimming and water skills, and have fun.
