Under 9's End of Season Report
Another hectic season draws to a close for the Port Sunlight Under 9 section. It seems like an age since we regrouped for indoor nets in late February.
It was a case of rebuilding the squad this year after losing so many players to the under 11's. We started the year with nine players but after a round of advertising recruiting/begging ended the season with a playing squad of fourteen, in fact the last couple of training sessions of the year saw twenty plus kids turn up which is very encouraging for the future.
As results went the total of played 8 and won 1 looks disapointing. But look further and the team were desperately unlucky, being beaten by margins as narrow as 2 runs and 3 runs and finshing in a game where the scores were tied.Considering in the first game over half the team had not played cricket before this shows a remarkable effort from the whole squad.
I would like to thank the boys for their efforts this year and hopefully will see everbody fresh for the start of next season. I would also like to thank the parents who have helped out through the season and would like to stress that next year could be critical for the under nine section. Both myself and John the other coach will be leaving the under nines and, as of the start of september we still have no coaches for next year. It would be tragic if, after having gained an excellant squad of young players the under nine section has to fold due to lack of interest. Please Please come forward if you can help the club or know someone who might be interested.
The dates for next years indoor nets will be posted here when they become available.
To everbody connected with the under nine section both John and I thank you very much. It's been a great four years. |
