Port Sunlight v Irby ---6th June 2007
Match result--Irby won the toss and elected to field, Sunlight scored 67 for 7 off 20 overs. Irby in reply scored 68 for 3 off 13. Sunlight possibly teated the good Irby attack with too much respect and did well to reach their final total of 67. Good batting from John Barrett & Jonathan Roberts helped the situation. Sunlight needed something special from Tom Sundve who gave them the perfect start getting the decision from 'trigger' Howard, traping the opener LBW first ball. Lewis Ramsden then did an athletic leap to collect a throw & run out No3 followed by bowling their No.4...Irby were then 6 for 3 off 4 overs.
Jamie Hurworth (Cheshire Under 15's) was still at the crease and had a couple of sticky moments early on. If they had gone to hand things may have been different. He eventually finished on an unbeaten 45 and lead Irby to victory.
BATTING..........................BOWLING Steve Grimes 3...................Tom Sundve 5.1.11.1 Carl Barton 3.......................Lewis Ramsden 3.0.16.1 Mike Graham 2.....................Gary Sundve 1.0.2.0 Jono Roberts 16....................Steve Grimes 2.0.11.0 John Barrett 24.....................Carl Barton 2.0.26.0 David Neilsen-Scott 4 Jamie Brown 6 n.o. Lewis Ramsden 4
Comments...If you count up the names you will only find 10, that's because someone just didnt turn up and basically let the side down. However, the lads who played in the main enjoyed themselves. As a team we could have batted a little more positively, although the Irby attack didnt give much away. Bowling, in the main, was on the spot, Tom on another day would have had more wickets. Finally special thanks to David for stepping up from the under 12's and batting/fielding very well. Roll on the next game.

Port Sunlight v Birkenhead Park..20th June 2007
Captain Mike Graham won the toss and elected to bat first on a sunny evening at Leverhumle's, the question was would the rain that was forecasted arrive before the game was completed.
Mike & Steve Grimes opened the innings and we got off to a more positive start then against Irby but Mike was caught in the 5th over & we were 18 for 1.
Lewis Ramsden now stode to the wicket, he & Steve sensibily pushed the score on without taking any risks or pushing the singles. The score had reached 50 when Lewis was caught which brought a change in the order with Mat Howard being promoted. With the overs running out the was a little more urgency in the running and score ticked over. Steve was bowled for a well made 34 and Jonno Roberts now got his chance. The 2 lads looked for singles off every ball and we finished on 99 for 3 off 20 overs. It was a total that I thought we could defend.
The Sundves' opened the bowling, Tom sending the opener back in the 1st over, caught behind by Lewis Grant. Neither lad gave anything away and Park were always behind the run rate.
Lewis R replaced Gary S and then Mat H came on from the other end. Again we bowled tight and our fielding was first class. Park took a chancy single to Chris Heller, bad idea and the other opener was run out. This brought Park's big hitter in and he was looking comfortable until his partner tried a very tight single off Mat's bowling. It was a foot race between Mat & the non striking batsman as to who was quickest--no contest-another run out.
Steve Grimes replaced Lewis and then things got interesting, Park now had to take chances and one of their lads sliced 2 fours off Mat plus a good 4 in consecutive balls before Mat got his revenge by bowling the partner. The next over he again sliced a shotthis time almost for six but straight down Jamie Browne's throat--unfortunately he couldn't hold on BUT had the arm to then help run the lad out.
The best was left to last when Lewis R threw down middle stump to leave yet another batsman stranded, it was only left to Gary S to bowl another and Steve to finish off the innings. We'd won by 7 runs

Thoughts From The Umpire..What a game of cricket, the bowling was first class, the fielding & throwing could hardly have been bettered. We still have to work on the batting with keeping the score board ticking over but it was a much better performance then against Irby.
After the team performance that I saw tonight, it would be wrong to single out one individual. Lewis Grant behind the stumps once again showed what a good player he is. All the batsmen & bowlers confirmed that they can all play and in the field we were awesome. We're now in the happy position of having set such a high standard, we now have show that we can repeat it.

Sunlight Visit Neston --9th July
Sunlight took to the field and opened their bowling with Tom S & Lewis R, Neston opened with David Hurst & Knight. This was the first time I seen Mr Hurst actually play, the question was 'How good was he?'..5 overs later Netson were 54 for 1, Knight out for 14, question answered. Enter Andy Clarke but we had a cunning plan, swap Steve G for Lewis, low & behold we get adouble breakthrough thanks to catches by Mike G & Chris H..they are reduced to 71 for 3 off 8 overs.
Tom finishes off his spell but for 1 over when the ball was bouncing out of the trees it was a tidy performance. Mat H came into the attack & immediately picks up a wicket, another good catch this time by Lewis R, then he bowls much to his delight Darcy Ward.
Steve G finishes off a good spell & Gary S joins in the fun, picks up a wicket another catch by Mike G plus a run out off a very good throw by the substitute fielder( one of the Neston lad's) followed by another wicket by Mat & Neston closed on 133 for 8.
It was a good total but when you consider at one stage they were on for 200+, the bowlers & fielders had done well.
The reply started with Mike G & Carl, unfortunately carl didnt trouble the scorers and Mat H joined he fray. Both lads were striking the ball well , including running a 4 until Mat was caught for 16. Jonno R now got his chance & once again played with calm assurance, apart from when he was throwing himself to the floor.
Mike G had reached 24 when he was caught, Steve G looked good but ran himself out, Lewis R didnt last long and Chris H hit the biggest 6 of the night into the pub carpark before foolishly taking on Andy Clarke's arm. there was only going to be one winner & it wasnt Chris.
Tom S had a go but didnt last long, nor did Gary S and Lewis G was the last man out, we'd reached 96 in the 20th over.
BOWLING.............................BATTING
M.Howard 5.0.21.3...............M. Graham 24
S.Grimes 5.0.26.2...................J.Roberts 17 n.o.
G.Sundve 3.0.22.1..................M.Howard 16
T.Sundve 5.0.35.1.................C.Heller 10
L.Ramsden 2.0.24.0................S.Grimes 4
...........................................T.Sundve.3
...........................................L.Grant 1
.......C.Barton, L.Ramsden, G.Sundve 0
Once again we only had 10 men, not sure yet what happened to the No.11. I'm not sure what difference it would have made, Neston's sub fielders were all good.
Overall, it was a good performance by us against a very competant Neston side, who'd put 199 on against Upton. Everyone did their bit, Lewis Grant once again showing what he can do behind the stumps, giving up just 1 bye (off the last ball of the innings). The bowlers stuck at the task even when they were getting some stick, the catching was top quality. The batting was good in parts and again showed what we can do if we concentrate.
Oh yes, after the recent weather that we've all had to put up with, the rain didnt start until the last 5 overs so that was a pleasant change as well.
