TUE 23rd SEPTEMBER- AWAY vs St JOSEPHS So off we go then ! ! We played the St Josephs on Tuesday and the result was favourable. We started the season off with a win, lets keep it going for as long as possible. The match went like this :-
First up was Neil. Came down brilliantly with a couple of tons but ended up in the-Mad house. Just as we all thought it was not to be our night Fishy came through. Never in doubt ?????? 1-0
Next it was Don. As we have come to expect now it was a faultless performance with two 140s and a first dart double 20. 19 darts in all, smashin mate. 2-0
Andy its over to you. You need a double to start in this game so it doesnt help if you give your opponent 15 darts start. Specially when the sod hits 140 and a ton with his first 9. So they won one, we can get it back. 2-1
Oh god its me now.Ian H. Pretty average apart from a 140, typically left myself on double one. The other guy wasnt fairing any better though, so luckily its a win for me yippeee! 3-1
Jeff can stretch our lead, I know he can !! And sure enough after a really close battle with some pretty dismal scoring in goes a double 10. 4-1
Next to the oche is Ian E. And he is off to a flyer 81 away and loads of 60s, a good 98 towards the end seemed to have swung the leg our way but the other player was never far behind and an impressive ton left him on a double which the swine hit next visit. 4-2
Harry, come on mate finish it off. Great game to watch for the neutrals except there arent any here. High scoring game St Josephs hit 180 Harry replies with a ton of his own, then we see an 86 to leave tops. Come on H first dart no messing about and the game is safe. 5-2
Pete can relax now. Pity you still cant count though. 100,60,60,60, just a few of the darts you did chuck. And Double 20, double 10 and double 5 are just a few that you didnt chuck. 5-3
Mike will make it really impressive. Wont he ??? Off first dart and loads of great scores by both players this really was a great game to watch. Unfortunately it was the St Josephs player who hit that double. really unlucky Mike. 5-4
We saw some seven 140s during the game, pretty impressive stuff. Lets keep up the good work. See you all on Tuesday at home against Lairds Veterans followed by a cup game away against The Dibbinsdale on Thursday. ----------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday 30th September Home vs Lairds Veterans
What a Shambles..... we are all guilty ! ! !
First up tonight its Neil, off after his fifth visit and the other guy is well in front and stays there despite a rallying 120 towards the end the result was not good.......0-1
We could do with a Don special next to level things. He won somehow, luckily the other player was either blind or pissed....1-1
What! Me you must be joking Paul. Anyway I give it my best shot which is pretty dismal really although I did hit a couple of tons. The finish just didnt come, infact if Id stayed all night it wouldnt have..1-2
Skipper Paul to the oche and my god the other lad is playing a blinder. 85,85,85 and 100 should have done the trick but our Paul does give up so easily and clinches it with tops.......2-2
Me old mate Jimmy is up now and apart from a shaky finish on madhouse it has to be said he played pretty well.. God it kills me to say that...3-2
Kevin is playing his first game for us and was shaking like a leaf at the start. A ton away and a couple 85s give him some confidence and stopped him spilling his ale. Good scores are not much good though if you cant hit a double to finish. Nuff said..3-3
We really need the next leg and Bens the man for the job. First four scores of 80 plus and things are looking good, the other feller is lagging behind. But guess what, we still cant hit them doubles. 3-4
Things are getting a bit desperate now, we cant afford to lose any more legs. Up steps Harry and what a performance. Two tons and a spectacular 98 finish, you should be coaching the rest of us on them bastard doubles. Best game so far..4-4
Its the decider and we go with Jeff, they just happen to have Lee Atherton walk in the door at that very moment ????? Jeff gets off first then hits a ton, Lee is struggling, could this be our night after all. No such bloody luck, Lee is off and hits a couple of tons. Jeff manages to reach his double but like the rest of us cant make it count...4-5
With the exception of Harry we all played crap. Simple as that........................
Thursday 2nd October 2003 Away vs Dibbinsdale (Manning Cup- prelim) Could this be the start of a glorious cup run? Kevin must have impressed Paul on Tuesday because his name is offered up as first man. So what can I say....... Very consistant scoring 20,21,26,23,5,6,26 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 3 sticks of chalk later Kevin is on a double and checks out with a stunning double 3. Good job its a massive blackboard here......1-0
Somebody wake Don up its him now. Steady game if not brilliant but Don did enough to keep his 100% record intact. So we are fortunate to be.........2-0.
Pete now makes a welcome return to the first team after spending a couple of matches on the bench. Superb scoring with two tons and an 85. The little bugger even counted correctly (honest he did). Really unlucky at the double but I think he did enough to impress the Manager....2-1
Paul now names himself and should be under no pressure. Some particularly fine scoring gets him down to his double in extra quick time, but there he stays. Come on mate, youve given the other guy loads of chances, very charitable Im sure. Just as we are giving up hope he pins a double 10 and its....3-1.
Ian Evans is next to the oche and we all have a kip while he gets off. Then both players manage to hit no score over 26. Its edge of the seat stuff as Ian finishes on double 19. You can almost feel the tension but most of just head to the bar. The upshot is amazingly its............4-1.
Jeff comes next and we see an excellent performance. His opponent wasnt much cop I must admit but instead of getting dragged down Jeff got on with his own game and won easily. Best player on the night so far and the tie is safe......5-1.
A relaxed Andy is up now and the famous-finger- is in action straight away for 100. Some reasonable scoring see him first to the double but the other bloke is never far behind and sadly the sod hits his first. I know.....you would have got it next throw, we have heard it all before. Anyway the score is....5-2.
With so many players left, the decision is going to be hard for Paul now...... Bloody marvelous, they have no more players and they forfeit the last two legs. So officially we win it.......7-2
Thanks must go to the Dibby for the prehistoric board. Double twenty was marked as XX. Also the entertainment was good, I mean we really appreciate Gary Murphy belting out-Walk of Life just behind the door to the Dart Room.
------------------------------------------------------------ Away v Beb Libs Tue 7th October Up against our old enemy tonight, always a close match but unfortunately the Libs have had the upper hand in recent fixtures. So its Game on!!
Its usually Kenny Smith on first for them and its no suprise when Tommy names Ken, Paul names Neil so off we go. First shot in a double and Ken misses so we are off to the perfect start. Neil is playing really well but Ken hits a couple of big scores to make it a close finish with both guys on doubles. But its Neil who makes it with double 16 and we are off to a great start....1-0
Don is next to the board and there is very little I can say about this game, suffice it to say look at these scores....16 away, 43,180,180,82... Game Over. Thankyou very much. The best game I and many others there have seen. Well done Don..........2-0
Two nil up and things are looking promising we still have some good-uns left to play. Infact here is one now its Pete. He is up against Tommy and both guys are off handy, not a high scoring game at all until Tom hits a 146, god knows where he found that but it puts him on a double and he duly obliges to get one back for the Libs............2-1
We can regain our advantage though as I am named to play Dennis Bailey, I know I will have to play well to have any chance. To be honest I did not do too badly to keep it close but Dennis was playing typically well and beat me on the double. But sadly its..........2-2
Next to the oche its Jeff and I dont think I have ever seen so many darts end up on the floor. The game goes to the wire with Jeff just missing out at the crucial stage. But bloody hell!! if only some of those darts had stayed in the board. Tough break Jeffers.......2-3
Jimmy against Ricky Davis is a tough one to call as both players are capable of some good stuff but they can be pretty dire too. Its really close, nip and tuck all the way, a pathetic run of 11,41,41 and 43 by Mr Kelly hands the advantage to Ricky and he takes his chance to make it.............2-4
Paul will steady the ship...we hope.. He is up against Paul Mc Guire and the pressure is really on. Some pretty nifty scoring seems to be swinging it our way but Tall Paul was never far behind and sneaks it with tops leaving Paul on 80, and the rest of us on a downer. The match is lost.............2-5
Andy the Finger gets his chance now. Not spectacular with the other bloke on his double well before Andy, but he plodded gamely on and we eventually saw the old Index which can only mean one thing..........3-5
Benny had to work late but made it to the game and was rewarded with an opportunity to show us what he is made of...Sugar and Spice... The game actually went very well with Ben hitting a number of treble 20s and he checked out with 59 leaving his opponent struggling in the 100s.........4-5
Will we ever get the better of this lot? The games were mostly very close and I believe we had some hard luck along the way with an extraordinary number of bounce outs. We owe them a thrashing and it will come at our place towards the end of the season,no danger.
Finally a special mention for Don Groom and that spectacular game. Now that is going to be tough to top. ....On a bit of a high from last week we feel we may be at the start of a winning run and so we begin with Neil. Off to an excellent start hitting double with his second dart and following that with a ton. Coming down quickly with a steady flow of 60's we soon see Neil on a finish. It's 48 left and no problem for our man. Poor Peter Lowey isn't even off and the game is over.............1-0
Next up is Ben against Charley Lloyd and taking inspiration from Neil, Ben is away at the first time of asking. Steady darts by both players sees them both at their doubles together. It's anyones game as opportunities are missed by Ben and Charley alike. Ben leaves himself an awkward double 5 but it's not awkward for him and we see another leg go our way.................2-0
Two nil up is a pretty good start and it should get even better as Don strides up to the oche. What a time to play his worst game of the season, Dave Anthony will probably never have an easier game as he checks out with 48 leaving Don floundering back on 288........................2-1
Harry Clegg has not played for a few weeks and may be a little rusty. It appears that is not the case as he gets to his finish in next to no time leaving Barry Mottram back on 270. But the game is all about doubles and Harry is really struggling here and the inevitable happens as Barry hits double 8 for a lucky win....................2-2
Jimmy against Derek Bagley should be a great match and they don't disappoint the crowd. Both guys scoring well, Jimmy in particular chipping in with a couple of tons and 60 pluses. It's 54 left for Jim and he shows his mettle to end it with two darts. A superb performance and more like we expect from you Mr Kelly.........3-2
Andy gets his chance now and is up against Alan Lloyd. There are no great scores to report but never the less the game is extremely close. A number of darts miss their double targets and both guys end up on an unconventional 14 left. Sadly it's Alan and not Andy who hits it first and we must wait another week to witness the now famous 'finger' in action...........3-3
Arguably the most important leg of the match and fearlessly Paul nominates himself to play against Kevin Lloyd. As usual Paul is away with tops first dart. He immediately follows that with a ton and an 81 giving himself a bit of breathing space. We get a bit of a scare as Kevin hits 96 and 122 leaving a finish. But 'hey' this is the skipper playing and he nails it with double 12 and we are looking good at.................4-3
Jeff can put it beyond the Eastern against Steve Holden and it's looking ok with a number of scores over 60 and Steve needing some 12 darts to get started. Again though the doubles prove to be our downfall and Jeff is defeated after doing most of the hard work. Unfortunately the score is now............4-4
So now the destiny of the points lies with me (Ian H) and I really feel up for this one. We both seem to be showing signs of nerves but I hit a few 45's in the middle of the game and am lagging slightly behind. I get it back with consecutive tons and have a poke at tops for the match missing by a whisker. But the Eastern player also has a double to go for and to my great disappointment he makes it before I can get another go and I have let my team mates down SORRY GUYS.........4-5
