St Ann's, Warrington
St Ann's is a Church of England church, in the Anglican Diocese of Liverpool.
St Ann’s is on Central Avenue, about a mile north of the town centre. It's a new church opened in 2000, replacing a Victorian building (1869) on Winwick Road. This grade II* building how houses the North West Face climbing centre.
St Ann’s evangelical tradition dates back to the early 1870s, and its present worship and ministry reflect that tradition, although there’s now a deliberate openness in worship; this is enhanced by the "open" layout of the new church, with seating arranged centrally around the holy table.
St Ann’s church aided Primary School and Nursery Centre is adjacent, and the new church offers community facilities as well.
There are various activities for young people, and a monthly lunch club (second Monday) for senior citizens.
Sunday worship is at 10 a.m. every Sunday. The first Sunday each month is focussed on children (and the young at heart) and lasts about an hour. The other Sundays we have Holy Communion with the young people having their own separate time during the sermon and intercessions; the service lasts about an hour and a quarter.
Baptisms are usually held during the service on the first Sunday. Weddings and funerals are by arrangement.
St Ann’s was one of the first churches in the Anglican Diocese of Liverpool to develop a lay ministry team. The shared ministry team at St Ann’s now comprises the Vicar, three Ordained Local Ministers and four lay people.
