Warrington and District Rifle and Pistol Club

Our History
The Club was founded in 1937 by transport workers from Warrington. Possibly they foresaw the future of world events with much greater clarity than the government of the day, because they met regularly to hone up their marksmanship with small bore rifles. There were more small rifle ranges available in those days and old soldiers in the reserve felt it wise not to lose their skills.
As these ranges became fewer, the members looked for a permanent home and found the derelict piggeries at Walton Hall. This was rented from Warrington Borough Council and rebuilt by the members. It now has two indoor ranges and comfortable club rooms.
The Present
The Club is Home Office approved, which means we can welcome newcomers and train them using our own equipment. The Club is open each night of the week and Sunday mornings. The Club welcomes new members and undertakes to train them to be safe and competent with the firearms they will use. Youngsters are especially welcome but find that they must learn and practice the same safety drill and ethos as the adults. They seldom fail to rise to the challenge. They are treated as adults and are proud of it!
Want to try?
You would have to join initially as a Probationary Member. This would be for three months and would cost you £2. This is enough time for you to find out if you like one of the many branches of the sport enough to apply for full membership. It also gives the Club enough time to decide if you are careful and responsible and really interested in target shooting. Safety is, of course, of the utmost importance so we will begin with a safety lecture. However, real safety will be achieved by close supervision over the first visits so that the safety code becomes ingrained habit. Not only will you will not put your fellow members in any danger, they will always feel safe and confident in your company.
