The Final round of fixtures took place at Halton on Sunday 16th March.
Wirral were lying joint 3rd in the Premier Division with the 2nd team fifth but only 2 points adrift of 2nd. In the 1st Division.
Wirral opened against Halton and went behind when Maitreyi lost to M McCormack 15-13 11-8 6-11 12-10.Steve Nicholls levelled matters beating M Kwan. Debutant Tom Hill then beat I Johnson 11-7 in the fifth. Maitreyi then beat K Kwan and we sealed the points as Steve beat I Johnson 7,6 ?& 4.
Tom narrowly lost 11-9 to M McCormack in the fifth. (we climbed to joint 2nd as Bolton lost to Leaders Southport)
Wirral were next in action with Southport A. Maitreyi gave us a 1-0 lead with a comfortable straight games win over J cummins.Steve beat Danny Houghton 11-3 11-9 11-9. George Gebbie then lost to Olly Valentine 13-11 in the fifth despite having taken the first 2 games. Maitreyi beat Danny 6,2 & 4
George then beat Jonny to clinch the win. Steve then beat Olly.
The final match was against Barrow A and we needed to better Barrows result against Southport to clinch runners up. We started brightly with steve taking the opening games 11-8 12-10 against Anna Donohue. Anna however came back to take it to a decider but Steve won that 11-6 to put us ahead.
Maitreyi then beat Ryan Smith in four and John Simcox beat Ben Perry. Maitreyi lost the opener to Anna but came back to win 11-3 in the fourth. This guaranteed a win as we were 4-0 up.
(barrow led Southport 3-1 so it was still all to play for at this stage) Steve beat Ben and John closed proceedings against Ryan. John won 14-12 11-9 11-13 12-10.
The good news filtered through that Southport had come back to draw and we were runners up.
The 2nd team started against Halton A and took the lead thanks to a John Simcox triumph over M Siu.
Tom Hill then beat M Howard and George Gebbie beat J R Warnick. John then overcame M Howard but George lost to M Siu.. Tom beat J R Warnick as the match ended 5-1.
2nd placed Lancs & Morecambe were next and Will Haynes beat Tom Hill in straight games.
John Simcox lost to Mark Nielsen and when George lost to Adam Soar the slim chance of promotion had evaporated. John then fell to will as they clinched the points. Tom beat Adam to prevent a whitewash. George then lost to Mark.
The final opponents were bolton A
John opened proceedings beating Beth Farnworth and Tom then beat Tim Fields.
George beat Liam McGrrevy. John beat Tim and George then beat Beth. Tom rounded off proceedings with a win over Liam.
