The concept of Advocare, Caring for Carers, is based on the premise that:
Carers are first of all people with their own unique identity who should be valued for who they are and what they do;
Carers who are dispirited feel less able to handle a crisis threatening an older person's admission into residential care;
By caring appropriately for their carer we can help to prevent an elderly person's unwanted admission into residential care.
