Boscombe Cliff Bowls Club
 | The Boscombe Cliff Bowls Club, founded in 1904, was the second Lawn Bowls Club in Bournemouth.
Our Green and Clubhouse are situated at the corner of Woodlands Avenue and Southbourne Overcliff Drive.
Boscombe Cliff is a private club and prides itself in encouraging many newcomers to try the game on our green. Some have become members, whilst other holiday makers have gone back home and joined their local clubs in England.
From October 2010 the club became the managers of the Bowling Green and Premises which are owned by the Bournemouth Council and have taken on the resposibility for the successful maintenance and running of the green.
Any one can bowl here for a very reasonable fee with bowls being provided FREE of charge, flat soled shoes are required but can be supplied if you do not have any. Please contact the steward on duty when you arrive or to make a reservation the telephone number is 01202 427810.
Boscombe Cliff moved to its present site after half the green disappeared over the cliff top during a storm early 1920's and a replacement Green with it's picturesque Pavillion was erected in 1927 which is still being used today. It incorporates a Café which is open daily from 09.00 to 17.00 April to September to everyone and is not just for our members. Paul and his dedicated staff provide breakfast, lunches and cream teas during the summer and continues to operate thoughout the winter for Sunday lunches.
2009 saw us win the National Top Club Championship at Worthing and again in 2011 reached he semi final, two of the many great achievements at National and International levels brought home to this club over the years through a succession of talented players.
The Shelley Park Bowls Club members continue to play on our green since the closure of their own which was on the site of the recently restored Shelley Manor.

OPEN DAYS Sundays April 29 and May 13 2012
We are having a couple of Open Days again this year as last seasons were such a success. Our efforts resulted in a number of those who tried the sport for the fist time becoming members, or have returned for an occasional session. We now have 5 qualified coaches who will be willing to help your introduction into the game. We do not expect to that as many will attend as last year when a total of 126 persons took part and enjoyed themselves.
All we need is it to be a sunny day
on Sunday 29th April and again on Sunday 13th May.
Do come along to see what it's all about
The Dorset Community Foundation's representative made a donation in 2011 for the purchase of some small bowls which are ideal for those younger bowlers, people with smaller hands or those whose hands are affected with arthritus and cannot use the larger sizes bowls to be used in coaching sesssions. |
Winter 2011/2012 refurbishment of the club
Members who attended the Annual General Meeting held at the club on Sat 12/11/2011 commented favourably on the refurbishing of the seating in the lounge, the enlarged changing room and how well the renewed GRASS BANKS had taken.
Our Greenkeeper with the aid of half a dozen volunteers has done a magnificent job saving the club over £20,000 from the quote for artificial banking.
Members and visitors are asked to repect these banks by using the steps provided to get on to the green
