Session Tunes
We hope that the Christchurch Folk sessions are welcoming to new musicians, but no matter how friendly a session is, it can still be a daunting prospect for a newcomer - everyone seems to know each other, and everyone seems to know all the tunes! This page presents a few of the tunes that are regularly played at the Christchurch Folk sessions in the hope that this will encourage new musicians to come along and join in. : | |

Mairi's Wedding:-
 | A well known Scottish tune. It has become customary for Mairi's Wedding to be played at least once during each session. Although a song (AB), we tend to play it as a tune as written (AABB).

Bear Dance:-
 | An English dance tune possibly derived from a Flemish polka. We frequently play it as part of a set: Horse's Bransle - La Mourisque - Bear Dance - Colour Your Money. : |
|
Gallopede:-
 | Apparently also known as Yarmouth Reel, but we have no idea if it comes from Norfolk, Nova Scotia, or is a local tune from the Isle of Wight!

Michael Turner's Waltz:-
 | A waltz from the tunebook of the 19th century Sussex shoemaker and fiddler Michael Turner, but traceable back to a late chamber piece by Mozart.

Quay Fair:-
 | This tune has been 'borrowed' from Cornwall, where it is associated with the midsummer festival of Golowan (Feast of St John) held annually in Penzance. It has now become a local favourite. It can be played as a processional march or with a hint of hornpipe.

Three Around Three:-
 | A frequently played English tune, sometimes in association with the Rochdale Coconut Dance.

Bonus Tune - Tinman's Haul:-
 | A simple but delightful tune acquired from Dave Trahair of the Cornish band Bagas Degol. It is named after a small sandy inlet at Penzance now lost under the harbour wall. : |
