Chapter 3
So, the following day, the pupils were sitting (as usual) in silence, when there was a stirring in The Box. Everyone held their breath and no one stirred. Amirb was starting to go red and Madig, purple. Natan said it reminded her of sitting by a deathbed. After a while, munching sounds were to be heard coming from the box, and everyone relaxed, he was eating one of the many decaying bodies. His classroom stank of mouldering flesh, which made the pupils' eyes water, and they longed to throw up but they did not dare to make a move in the fat rat's territory. But the very worst thing about the fat rat was his speaking habits. He had a Yorkshire accent and he tended to spit about every five words, his breath stank of vomit and whenever his back was turned his pupils passed round an air freshener to sniff, only this single airfreshener kept them alive. Without it, they would suffocate. |
