Past-Present-Future
 | PAST- The Friends were formed in early 1999,when a petition of 300 names was collected by two dog walkers and presented to the local M.P. They were concerned at the many problems arising on Kinson Common, a local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. A Committee was formed and a good working relationship was forged with the Countryside Officers of Bournemouth Borough Council and other organisations. We are also supported by English Nature.
PRESENT- All the Friends are Countryside Volunteers with Bournemouth Borough Council. We really enjoy our duties, which include litter picking, scrub clearance, monitoring wildlife and any problems that may arise. Great satisfaction is gained by being out and about in the fresh air and seeing the results of our hard work. One of our tasks in 2002 was helping to construct the Jubilee Walkway which allows access for all. We also enjoy many social activities, these include rambles and guided walks.
FUTURE- As a conservation group, our aim is to preserve Kinson Common for future generations to enjoy .We are always looking for new members to help us, so if you are over 18 years of age and enjoy conservation work, why not join us ?

|
Litter Picking
 | | Part of our duties carried out on a regular basis. |
|
Site publicity
 | We attend various events during the year to publicise our work on site. This also aims to show the public how important Kinson Common is, being in an urban environment. |
|
Scrub clearance
 | An essential part of our work to help regenerate the Common.
|
|
Millennium Steps Project
 | This project allowed easier access for all at the Glenmeadows Drive entrance to Kinson Common. |
|
Bat and Bird Boxes
 | In 2003, 5 Bat and Bird boxes were purchased with funds from our Canford Environmental grant. Unfortunately, 2 bird boxes were stolen, one of which is believed to have had young birds in residence.
In 2004, we placed 9 bat boxes and 4 bird boxes on site . Sadly one bat box was stolen within 2 days of being sited. In total 10 bat boxes and 6 bird boxes ( including an owl box) are now on the Common. These will of course be regularly monitored by us.This is all part of our ongoing conservation programme.

|
Jubilee Walkway
 | This has proved to be an outstanding success story
which allows easier access for all.

|
Moth trap
 | | In 2006 we purchased a moth trap which will enable us, with the help of a local expert, to monitor and record the species on site. |
|
Notice board
 | | Our notice board which is situated at the Glenmeadows Drive entrance to the Common is regularly updated with news and information. |
|
Two Barrow Heath
 | | During the Autumn/ Winter period of 2006 / 2007 we concentrated on clearing gorse , birch, oak and were amazed at the amount of heather we found hidden under the scrub. This really bodes well for its regeneration in the future. |
