An introduction.....
Thanks to the internet, I was lucky enough to have contact with a lady who told me she had photo's of Kinson Common from the 1980's. Obviously I was very pleased to hear this but had a wonderful surprise when I found out that the lady was in fact Val Pepin, younger sister of the late Cecil Pepin. Cecil was of course, a member of the Kinson Common Management Committee who managed the site from 1977 until 1989 and the pond in named after him. Many records from those times are due to Cecil's vast naturalist's knowledge. All of Val's photo's are taken from slides and are copyright. I am sure you will enjoy this photographic trip into the past..

Val says......
" I've lived in Bournemouth all my life, during the 1980's in the area but didn't know Kinson Common until I got first one dog and then two, walking there twice a day. I met other dog walkers and " Common folk" - as some called themselves, and made some friends. First dog was quite a good " photography dog"- she would wait quietly while I messed around. The young one got bored and barked, so I fitted in extra visits to take photographs". Picture below shows Eileen, my friend in the meadow. | |

Amateur naturalist....
" I was surprised to find the wildlife there, not knowing that Cecil had an interest in the Common. I came to the Common independently of him and for different reasons. I'm a very amateur naturalist . I was always interested but Cecil's knowledge didn't rub off on me until after he died. I've been an amateur artist/ photographer all my life but only acquired a decent camera( SLR) around that time and used the Common to get to know the camera. My knowledge of both natural history and photography increased happily during that period ".

The changes.....
" I very much miss that life since I moved. I hope to come back ( if less often), to see the changes, to take some pictures and to show the new dog ( when I get one)
