Mayor Visits Rough Sleepers Christmas Lunch
Well, another year has turned and we reflect on friends no longer here, people now rehoused and off the streets and we look forward to continuing success!
On Xmas day this year we, at Soul Food, catered for 60 people including the volunteer team of approximately 15. After spending Christmas Eve cutting, chopping and wrapping presents the team returned on Christmas Day to cook and serve the meal to the rough sleepers, homeless and vulnerable of our town.
Everyone was really pleased with their gifts (4 each) and were glad of the thermals, jumpers and fleeces as well as the hats gloves socks etc. they were all treated to a pouch of tobacco, papers and matches. Not something we would normally give but they were donated by a generous donor and they were all gratefully received.
The guests all arrived at 1pm and were greeted with non-alcoholic bucks fizz and served homemade hame and potato soup followed by Turkey and all the trimmings, for sweet there was Christmas pudding or Apple Pie. there was also lots and lots of mince pies and crisps and sweets etc; also films were available to watch if required.
We can not thank all our donators and volunteers for all their generous gifts of time, money and gifts. We also would like to thank the Mayor for taking the time to visit and chat to the volunteers and rough sleepers that arrived early. |
