Who we are
Verwood Choral Society was formed in 1988 to allow enthusiastic local singers the opportunity to join together and perform. All are welcome to this thriving four-part community choir; we strive to achieve high standards, while not losing sight of the enjoyment we can have in making music together.
We have presented over 50 concerts covering a variety of styles and repertoire, ranging from Bach to the Beatles; Andrew Lloyd Webber to Benjamin Britten; Handel to Gilbert and Sullivan, Rutter, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Stainer to mention but a few. Hopefully this caters for a very wide range of tastes both for the singers and the audiences who come to support us!
Each year we present two main concerts, one in the summer and one at Christmas. Occasionally we join with other local groups to present works at other times such as at Easter, and for special occasions for example at the ‘Singing Gardens of Cranborne’, local fetes and at the Twinning celebrations. We regularly lead the Carol Singing at the annual Verwood Christmas Extravaganza.
In some of our concerts we have been joined by Emmanuel Middle School Choir, St Michael’s Church Choir, the Teachers’ Orchestra, Verwood Concert Brass, Derek Thomas and his harp, as well as encouraging many local youngsters as they start on their musical careers, either as singers or as instrumentalists.
