SO, WHO ARE WE?

Wessex Bird of Prey Rescue was formed in June 2001. Being Falconers for the past 20 years we were approached my a local vet to see if we could re-habilitate a wild injured Common Buzzard.  The Buzzard had a broken wing which had been pinned and we looked after her for some six weeks until she was released in the Hatchpond area of Poole where she has made a complete recovery. Earlier this year was seen with a mate and three young Buzzards. Since then we have taken in Raptors from Dorset, Hants, Somerset and Wilts. We have taken in and re-habilitated Barn Owls, Tawny Owls, Little Owls, Common and Honey Buzzards, Peregrine Falcons, Hobbies, Kestrels and last but not least a single Marsh Harrier. We also rescue captive bred Raptors which have included Eagle Owls, Saker Falcons, Kestrels, Common Buzzards and Tawny Owls. Most of these have been re-homed with experienced Falconers and given homes for life. The Wessex Bird of Prey Rescue raise funds to operate by visiting schools in all the above mentioned counties and by participating in shows and fetes. We are always eager to attend these as the cost of operating is growing all the time. The rescue own a number of display birds which include Hawks, Falcons and Owls some of which were kindly donated by Mr. Bruce Berry at the Ringwood and New Forest Owl Sanctuary situated at Crow near Ringwood and well worth a visit to see their superb collection.
