Spring is in the air. Seems to have been a long, cold winter but perhaps that is just old age creeping in. Any way I am sure we all look forward to some sunshine when 'Short sleeves' is the order of the day. Our weekend at Babbacombe is approaching followed shortly by our annual dinner. This is being held on Thursday May 11th-6.30 for 7pm at Archers Road S.C. Tickets are now available from me or the secretary priced £10.00 for a threecourse meal with wine. Good value. Please apply early to avoid disappointment. Subs are now over due if not yet paid. Any problems give us a ring. May I welcome new members to the branch and hope to see you at our meetings. It is with deep regret to hear the news that General Sir Anthony Farrar- Hockley GBE KCB DSO MC MLit has died. We all join our friends of the ‘Glosters’ in feeling great sadness at the passing of such a great soldier who was held in such high esteem. We all send our deepest sympathy and condolences to the General’s family.

It started off rather dickey as the microphone seemed to have a mind of its own and people were unable to hear clearly. Sad really as it usually works very well and is an asset to me when asking the questions. Without its use I had to speak louder and repeat things more often .All went well until my voice nearly gave out due to recent throat trouble. Terry and Norman offered to step in but after a throat pastille and a drop of liquid I managed to press on. The categories were Sport, Nature, Entertainment, Who-said, Battles and General Knowledge. There was also the twenty faces to name. This proved to be fairly easy with table eight answering nineteen correctly. The first letter of the General Knowledge answers made an anagram. This was solved rapidly by Chairman Brian Burt. As the solution was EASTER EGGS he won the two giant eggs as a prize. (In reality they were two small cream eggs). Several other people came forward with the answer but they were too late to beat Brian. One member came up with SEGREGATES Unfortunately for him it wasn't the answer we required but all credit to him for a good try. I wish a prize had been available for him. The quiz winners were table eight with a grand total of fifty nine. Well done. Sorry there was no trophy to present as it hadn't been returned from the October quiz. Table one came second with fifty five points and table nine third scoring fifty. Thank you all for taking part and thanks to Rosemary, Roy and Terry for their assistance. The next quiz will be in October. After the quiz many people tucked-into a hearty lunch prior to the draw.
John Wyeth.
