The building of HE-TIN-KIS Park
He-Tin-Kis park is a far away place from DORSET. However, there is some Dorset Families sweat and blood in the building of the park in the Summer of 1971.
The park is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island in the town of UCLUELET, British Columbia, Canada.
Brian W ZELLEY, great grandson of Weymouth born William J S ZELLEY, was one of the crew of University students and Ucluelet High School kids to build the park. It was a project under the Canadian Federal Government's "Opportunities For Youth" program.
Today, if you search for the name "He-Tin-Kis", it is primarily shown under walking trails or west coast
sites.
At the completion of the park in August 1971, there was a name dedication and tour of the park. After 30 plus years, the original signs have long since been replaced. Ay one time, the names of seven persons involved from beginning to end were included in a hugh sign in the parking lot area. But, sadly it appears
this dedication has long been forgotten.
