Amnesty International
Amnesty International is an unbiased organisation, which does not support or oppose any government or political system. It believes that human rights must be respected throughout the world and takes up cases whenever it is considered that there are reliable grounds for concern, regardless of what the government or the victims believe.
In 1977 Amnesty was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for “activity for the defence of human worth against degrading treatment, violence and torture” This was followed in 1978 by the United Nations’ Human Rights Prize. |
