(1999) Does the Double -
Our first success for many years the Ferns not only wining the 3rd Division Summer League but also win the Eights Cup.
(2000) Relegation -
Less said about this season the better.
(2002) Consolidation Ė
We finished 9th this season and pleased that we held are own in this league
(2003) Promotion -
How lucky can a team get!
The Ferns finish 4th in the league and for the same reason as previous years teams in the above league has dropped out.
Menís singles -
Andrew Sterry was knocked out in the single semi-finals to the Ocean 2. His excuse was ďfirst on and cold ď. Likely story we think he was not good enough".
(2004) Just missed out -
Division 1 -
Ferns ďAĒ finished 3rd in Div 1, narrowly missing out on promotion in the last game of the season. Hopefully somebody will drop out of the top Division and we can get promotion for the 3rd year running.
Mixed Pairs -
Chris Bate and Beryl Merton made it all the way to the final in the pairs and what a final this turned out to be. The opposition was the dreaded Newport Galv and how the Ferns wanted revenge for the defeat they suffered which cost them the league.
The Ferns went of first scoring 8 and a 4, the Galv replied with 6 and a 5. Things were looking up, 2nd roll up again Chris lead with 8 and Beryl followed up with a 6. The Galv comes back with a 7 and 6. Down to the last roll up all the Ferns must do is keep it steady with two 7's. Chris last roll and he takes a 13 spare, then Beryl follows with a 9. Surely itís all over the Galv need a miracle to win this now. Their 1st lady bowls and she takes a 16 spare "game on", still the pressure is on the Galv they need all of the nine to win the game. 1st roll he takes 7 pins down, 2nd roll another skittle is taken this leaves 1 ball for 1 skittle. He sends a perfect ball down the alley and wins the game.
Menís Singles -
Andrew Sterry failed to make it out of the semi- finals for the two years running. Beaten by the Hibernians who went on to win the competition?
(2005) - Under-achievers......
A disappointing season in all with the team finishing 3 from bottom or just below mid table !! After the very bad start, no wins from first 5 games, the team did well to finish strongly.
On the cup front, a quarter final in the 12 a side and a semi final loss in the fours was a bit disapointing, but once again the ferns cup specialist Beryl Merton kept the flag flying by defending her mixed pairs runner up trophy this season with Redge Slade. Losing to the clarence in the final after beaten last years winners in the semi final.
(2006)....to be or not to be...
Hopes are high again this season with new summer members, some from the mens winter league and also new female players.
Newly appointed capt Gary Shaw and vice Beryl Merton must be hoping to have some silverware to celebrate come the autumn.Hopefully a better attempt at the cups but more importantly a real push for league honours........
Well promotion gained via the playoffs, not too bad on the cup front but at least we up with the big boys !!
2007 as high as it goes .......
