The 'BIRTH' of the 'SCOOTERBOY' [mid 80's]
 | During the mid 80's, the 'Mod' thing was starting to fizzle out, people were listening to all forms of music, Mod, Ska, Northern, Tamla Motown etc. And from personal experiences, it was decidedly dodgy growing up as a Skinhead, as the bloody National Front facists had adopted the skins 'uniform' as their own! I suppose this was simply down to the fact that it was the most aggressive uniform [apart from the old bill's] at that time! So came the 'NEW BREED', a SCOOTERBOY was born, we chose to not only listen to, but also, to dance to all forms of 'our' music, we ditched the uniform of the Mod, and wore instead, the army combat trousers, Doc. Martens, Flying jackets covered in the rally patches etc. We also had a new breed of inventiveness regarding our scooters. During this exciting era came the extended forks [twisted, chromed were popular], cut-downs, choppers, matt black 'rats', street racers, to name but a few, along with the cut panels, and anything different, it was a time of 'bollocks to you, and your rules' I'm doing my own thing. And our own thing certainly caught on, like wild fire!Though were still all mods at heart, we progressed through the skinhead and suedehead movements, we are ALL SCOOTERBOYS OR SCOOTERGIRLS at the end of the day, it's just that now we're called 'Scooterists'! Yet another change, or just a sign of the times? Who knows, who cares, it doesn't matter. What is important, is that were all still enjoying the scene after 21 years [yes, I'm an old git!] and that our scooters are still making us happy, as does the music, our friends, and the drink fuelled scene that is 'OUR WORLD' Keep the Faith...MATT [officially the oldest Happy Days 'Guvnor'] |
