THE JOYS OF SCOOTERING [WHY?]
Picture this, waking up;one very early summer morning;excited and very much looking forward to a Rally to the far off reaches of sunny Rhyl! With the scooter packed up and all ready to attack the Brecon Beacons, I'm away. My mind is going into overdrive as to how many will be there, will I meet up with old friends, or even the rest of my club! As after a few phone calls, it appeared that they had all overslept and would meet up later in the day. As my scooter was dying to get going, I thought Sod it, I'll go solo and see them on the camp site! As I narrowly miss being killed by myopic drivers on my way to the A470, I finally settle back to a comfortable 65ish on my dear old Rally 200 and start to take in the scenery. Bloody marvellouse! I don't even get passed Caerphilly when I get a flat back tyre, so not being fazed by this, I pull over and swiftly change it. Unloading all my luggage, then laying the scooter over, once done, reloaded, and I'm off again. A little bit further on, it starts to drizzle, but having no wet weather gear [cos' it's Summer!] I laugh to myself and push on, what a hero! The skys turn blacker, almost to the point of a purple/black colour, then comes the thunder and lightening, SHIT! Nowhere to hide, I keep on moving, the rain now turns to bloody sleet, then my body, hands and extremities are numb. Keep on going, I'm hard as nails me, then it returns to good old fashioned rain, drops like golf balls! I find somewhere to stop, change my clothes and have a fag, it's surprising what you can get away with in a bus stop! I wrapped socks on the exhaust to dry, which it did a treat. Finally I arrive at Rhyl in glorious sunshine, nobody seemed to believe the weather I had ridden through! The campsite was shit, like trying to pitch a tent on the side of a mountain, it was bloody tarmac! And lumpy too. Then followed a weekend of total drunken, dancing, eating crap food and spending too much money;scenario! AND WHY DO WE DO IT? COS' WE LOVE IT, IT'S IN OUR BLOOD! WE LOVE THE SCENE!! ROLL ON THE NEXT RALLY, AND HAPPY DAYS HAD BY ALL, RIDE SAFE -TOGETHER HOPEFULLY!!! Matt 'the Guvnor' Skin' |
