Budd Family

The English Budds are strongly focused in Hampshire,in the area bounded by Petersfield and Alton. East Meon lies within this rectangle. Between 1560 and 1597 the East Meon parish register shows no Budds christened, but the Baptism register between 1597 and 1712 has not yet been transcribed. The Earliest parish entry is a burial of Sarah Bud in 1692, so some earlier tracing looks possible.

For John Budd's marriage to Elizabeth, the transcribed East Meon parish register shows only banns read in 1780, but IGI records their marriage on 15 October of that year. A John Budd, son of Jno. (John), is recorded in the parish register as being christened 18 February 1740, who might be the same person. There is no known death record, but his last known child (Mary) was probably born 1798.

John & Elizabeth Budds Family

John & Elizabeth had 5 children, not all are believed to have survived into adulthood.

Elizabeth Budd was christened on May 27 1787 in East Meon, her christening and death, may 30 1787 are recorded in the parish records.

Elizabeth Budd 1790- ???? Elizabeth is recorded in the parish register as being christened on March 25 1790. There is no reference to a marriage. She is unseen until the 1871 census, where Elizabeth Budd, aged 81, unmarried is staying with her sister-in-law Mary-Ann. This is Mary Ann nee EADE, second wife of John BUdd, and is prime evidence for selecting John the son of John & Elizabeth, rather than the John Budd son of Richard & Ann.

John Budd Christened August 6th 1792 and died in 1871 The Stroud. This John is the line we are trying to track.

Thomas Budd is recorded in the parish register being christened feb 3rd 1795. There is a marriage at East Meon between Thomas Budd, batchelor of full age, son of John Budd, and Eliza Carpenter, 29th July 1847. It is not clear if this is the right Thomas Budd, who would then have been 52.

Mary Budd her christening is recorded in the parish register and we have been unable to find any more information on her.
