Cobbett's committee
I was just about to make one of my customary but totally unecessarily sarcastic comments about there probably not having been a meeting since this page was last published in the late 1890's, when the gap between my memory lapses widened just enough to allow recall of at least two twinning meetings and a little more recently, the AGM. Of the former, little now remains beyond the agreeable memory of a fine fish and chip supper at the fabulous Burridge Club preceded as it had been by a trip on a big-wheel somewhere near a boating lake. Of the latter however, who could possibly forget it? It was held in November.......possibly, it was at the very same very fabulous Burridge Club..........we think, and seemed to involve a change in Dramatis Personae. All else is blurred behind a veil of tears brought on by the departure of our beloved El Presidente and the arrival of the Floyd / Lombard power cartel. In keeping with our club's New Year's Resolution of deadly efficiency with a smile and of promptness above and beyond the call of duty, you will be reassured to know that our first committee meeting of the year was defered to the following Thursday but one, which was........well............ignored! However..... we promise to try and squeeze one in before our club doubles exposes itself ahead of schedule on March 26th or possibly 27th. ( See details in our super-glossy, pull-out and throw-away ' Forthcoming Competitions' or possibly ' Club Events and Happenings ' section )
