Results from 24 September
Whilst the wind direction was not the kindest for race officials Robert Hobbs and David Munro, nevertheless a good day's sailing was enjoyed by all in a steady breeze. 9 races in total (2 heats in each) including the seeding races were sailed. Phil Playle with his Sword and Colin Cooper with his Sweet got off to excellent starts winning their respective seeding races. The eventual overall winner Peter Wiles (Sweet) struggled in the seeding race. Race 2 however saw Peter promoted from B fleet to A fleet and win the A fleet heat. Race 3 saw John white with the only Argo being sailed lead almost from start to finish, only to be pipped on the line by Colin. In Race 4 Linda Munro was promoted from B fleet to A fleet and then went on to win the A fleet heat. Peter and Colin followed.
Peter was first across the line in Race 5 followed by Mark Holt and Clive tappenden (both Sweets).
Whatever it was that Phil Playle had not done in Races 2 - 5, he corrected for he went on to win Races 6, 7 & 8 such that there was everything to sail for in the 9th and final race of the day.
As it turned out although in a slightly different order the top 6 finishers in Race 9 also comprised the final top 6 overall with Peter winning by 3 points from Phil. Colin's consistency enabled him to take 3rd place overall. These 3 were comfortably clear of the rest of the fleet although as an indication of just how close some of the results were there was a spread of only 20 points between 4th and 12th overall.
