Just visiting the Hampshire society whilst surfing around. :-).I noticed that SPD has been mentioned a few times... for those who are in need of information and support for this disorder, you can find uptodate, relevant information by visiting the SPD Parents Support Page at www.spdsupport.org.uk. Enjoyed my visit, keep up the good work!

I have a 4 year old daughter diagnosed with mild autism and also learning difficulties and a development delay. She started mainstream school in September and in the last few weeks her teachers are very concerned over her behaviour. She has been pushing and becoming obsessive over a particular girl in the class. I really don't know what to suggest as she is not like this at home or with children out of school. She is an only child and I would welcome any suggestions from anyone to pass on to the school as I feel very worried over the situation.

We live in Ringwood and have a 16 year old son diagnosed with Aspergers. He was at Oak Lodge and is now in his first year at Totton College doing a pathways course before deciding his next steps. Very sociable, loves music, not academically minded, has no friends in the local area so feels a little isolated when not at college. If you have a son or daughter who needs a friend in this area let us know.

I'm currently a T.A working 1-1 with an autistic child at a mainstream school. I also work for the KIDS charity as a respite worker looking after another autistic child and a child with cerebral palsy. I have just been offered (and accepted) full time work from HAS as a T.A at Hope Lodge School in Southampton and I'm very much looking forward to starting in September!

I have a 5 year old son that has Aspergers although we had to get a private diagnosis when he just turned 5 last summer. Despite it being suggested by the NHS when my son was 2 years and 9 months. The eventual diagnosis was 'social communication disorder'. Though the private diagnosis was made by a professor recommeded by HAS, my son's school took not a blind bit of notice! They eventually removed him from Special Needs Register without informing me, not that they told me when they first placed him on at stage 3! I have now found out through his records that an Educational psychologist went into the school, though there is no documentation of this in his file! Subsequently we have been forced to remove him and place him in another school - which has upset him/us enormously. Because of many difficulties that we , and other parents in Basingstoke, have experienced, we have formed Different Worlds - a support group for parents of children with AS and autistic spectrum disorders. Please contact us if you wish to come along to one of our meetings, or just to meet other parents that are going through the same trials and tribulations as yourselves. Email: Lyn at ls.fusion@virgin.net or phone Sandra on 01256 474972 or visit our website http://differentworlds.mysite.fsnet.co.uk

Our grandson Ellis is six years old and was a normal developing child until around 18 months old. He had his MMR around that time and he slowly regressed, began sleeping far too much and stopped developing in the way he had prior to having the vaccine. Sarah and Paul also have a seven year old daughter( Robyn )who is perfectly normal. She loves her little brother very much and understands his disability. Robyn uses MAKATON to help her communicate more fully with her brother.Ellis is slowly developing his missing skills and is at a regular school in Southsea. We hope that by his teenage years, Ellis will be able to manage his needs with continued help and support.

Updated entry: I have a 10 year old with AS and 7 year old with suspected Semantic Pragmatic Language Disorder (bit like AS but without the 'oddness'(I say that with affection). 10 year old starts secondary school in September '04 and still has never been seen by Educ Psych. School feel younger son has SPLD but he has not been seen by Educ Psych either.

I have a 12 year old boy who has always been 'different'. Assessment at age 9/10 established he has extremely high IQ but displays many aspergers characteristics. It is causing problems for him and all around him, but I can get no help as academically he is able, but he is unhappy and has low self esteem with difficulty with keeping friends. Any ideas on where to go (he is resistant to the thought of having aspergers.

My son is now 28 and has never been diagnosed although he was in 'special education' for 6 1/2 years. I read Oliver Sachs 'Anthropologist On Mars', in which there was one chapter about someone with Aspergers syndrome, after my son had left school. I then read what I could find at my local library on Aspegers Syndrome and realised this had to be my sons problem. My son does not want to listen or ask for any help although he desperately needs it. Any suggestions?
