A brief History

I was brought up in Deptford in South East London, not far from Greenwich.
I decided to research my family history when both my parents died - I should have done it earlier, I know, but it is easy to be wise afterwards!
I was very surprised to find out my family had come from Hampshire and the surrounding areas - no one had every mentioned this to me.  Because of the connections with Southampton, Portsea and Greenwich, it could have been a mariner family.  However, I don't think this was the case.  My great, great grandfather, William Kingston was a draughtsman and his son was an engineer or iron moulder.  They may have worked on the ships but I don't think they were actual sailors.
