Local rivals beaten in County final

Congratulations are due to our U-16 indoor team who have followed up their unbeaten record in securing the league title at Fareham with snatching a last over win in the County final at Winchester's River Park against local neighbours Sarisbury Athletic.
The team of Mike Boyd (capt), Alex Richardson, Matt Light, Ben Watts, Robert White and Gareth Ransley allowed Sarisbury to post a total of 122-5. Early tight bowling by Boyd and Richardson looked to restrict Sarisbury to a lower total, but sensible batting after the dangerous Hammond was dismissed enabled them to secure a defendable total.
In reply Richardson and Boyd who anchored the innings set off at a blistering pace punishing any bad bowling by Sarisbury. Once Richardson had retired however, our batsmen became bogged down as the required run rate steadily rose. When Boyd (30 ret)also retired, Sarisbury deliberately spurned wicket taking oppurtunities to deny the openers a return to the crease. Despite needing 51 off the last three overs when Richardson (51 not) finally got back in, a flurry of boundaries and good running by White (17 not)saw us home with three balls to spare.
