Urgent Vacancies

Whilst there are many ways in which you can become involved with the Talking Echo, we urgently require volunteers to assist in Tape Management, Tape Copiers and Dispatchers. Please note that you must be 18 years old or more to be a volunteer and CRB checking is now a requirement. There are now vacancies for Readers. Tape Management This role is carried out during the day on a Tuesday and Thursday at our studio and involves receipting returned wallets using a bar code scanner, removing and sorting the returned tapes and then rewinding and erasing the tapes for re-use. Training in the use of the equipment involved is provided and you will be working alongside an experienced volunteer. A methodical approach and an eye for detail are basic requirements, as is working with a computer. Tape Copiers This requires attendance at the studio on a Wednesday morning every two weeks for about three hours. The process involves the use of a computer and high speed copying equipment. Training is provided and you will be working alongside another volunteer until fully trained. Dispatchers This crucial task is only carried out on alternate Wednesday mornings and involves loading the mailing wallets with two cassettes and preparing the mail sacks for collection by Royal Mail. Some heavy lifting may be required. Full training is provided. This job takes about 2 hours and should be completed by mid-day so that our listeners receive their tapes the following day.
